Apple to bring iPhone production back? Prices to double?

The real question is for those in America who want off shoring to end how many are willing to pay double for their iPhone in order for it to happen?
They don't have to. Let the U.S impose the 45% import tax. People will pay 1 1/2 times more, but if the tax money is used to create infrastructure jobs across the country, that's a win/win.
Of course, the money will probably be used to build the 'wall to nowhere'. Trump's $30 billion clustefuck that won't work.

They won't, they'll buy a Chinese smartphone instead. I have a Lenovo K5 Note, it costs around $170 and is easily as good as an iPhone 7 for a fifth of the price. I frankly can't see how they make money on it to be honest.

So that one will cost $255 including the import tax. Still a deal if jobs are created with the money.

reduction of corporate tax is a long way off so that's not a consideration here. Fear of what policies?
Why do you think it's a long way off? We're going to see a repatriation of offshore money at 10% before the end of this year.

Wait, you support tariffs in trade?

If Trump makes good on his promise to tax offshore profits at 10% then maybe Apple can afford to bring manufacturing back?

That won't create any jobs. Taxes are computed on profits. The labor/environmental/healthcare issues still make it virtually impossible to compete with overseas manufacturing, even though any U.S production would be done in 'right to work for slave wages' states.

This is a discussion. If you read your own article, it suggested that the $45% tariff is still cheaper than U.S manufacturing. I merely stated that the money could be used to create jobs across every state, as opposed to one or two 'right to work' states.

Do I support import tariffs? Do you know another way to bring manufacturing back? There is no way to bring jobs back, without some sort of long term pain. I don't know if I support the idea or not. I do know that there are few other answers.

What excessive tariffs do is cause a trade war in which all sides lose but especially the U.S. It is an excellent way to lower the standards of living in this country and it will not bring manufacturing jobs back.

First...what the fuck are you doing up at 5 a.m? Oh...wait...you're a new father!

We are now losing a trade war, so to quote the Orange Special Needs Clown....'what do we have to lose?' . Yes...it will lower the standard of living, as many will now have to buy only one pair of $125 sneakers, as opposed to three. And those are the people on Welfare.

Everything will be more expensive...I'll grant you that. But, in this country, we don't know the actual cost of anything, as most of what we consume is subsidized by the taxpayer.

When the cost to manufacture here is almost the same as the cost to manufacture overseas, we'll see a better economy.

Or...proper use of the import tax money could create better paying jobs here, so people could afford to pay twice the price for overseas goods.

What makes you think it will be a one time policy? Rewarding corporations for bad behavior is going to be the norm for the next 4 years.

What kind of corporate reform or penalties for bad behavior have you seen in the last 8 years?

The WORST part is the wife and kid are still in Texas so I'm home alone. What did I do with my "freedom" last night? I saw at home reading Phil Knight's new book, went to bed at 8:45 and woke up at 4:45am this morning. WTF?!?! Is this what happens? Your body won't let you sleep in anymore?

I bought it for £140 in the UK from a company that imports them and adds an English ROM with Android 6.

I would imagine that much of the work would be done by robots.
