Washington Post retracts story about Russian hack at Vermont utility

You would put a "disclaimer" in the original report. You would NOT put a retraction in the original report.

Good grief!

Sear

If they had provided a "disclaimer" that the story was unverified in the original report, a "retraction" would have been unnecessary.

Actual journalists don't go to press with unverified stories. That's what editors see to. Total journalistic failure. As we have come to expect from these guys over the last 8 years.

No, a disclaimer should be in the original article, but can be added afterwards. They are NOT interchangeable as you advocate.

So it's ok to retroactively put in a disclaimer effectively saying...
'we knew it was bullshite but decided to run it anyway so maybe we would keep readership from falling and we have to lower our ad rate. oops'.

Good idea.

If you KNOW it's bullshit, you print a retraction. If you get new info that makes you unsure of it's veracity, but not sure it's false, you can add a disclaimer.

a) I'm not sure this amusing comment is in my consideration or not.
But if I may take the egotistical leap to comment premised on that it may be:

b) It's not a "name". It's a pseudonym.

c) It's not "Seer" with capital initial. It's deliberately lower case.

d) It's "sear" a different word. I acknowledge the "seer" implication, premised on my extensive perspective.
But that's merely an implication. The actual pseud is "sear".

e) The bestial reference does not seem supported by the substance of this thread.
Thus the allusion seems rather less about me than about the one that posted the comment.

Just call the lying dog what it is.....a lying YELLOW JOURNALIST dog. THE TRUTH should always be paramount in any circumstance when it is printed by someone calling themselves journalists from the 4th estate. When the truth is not forthcoming we are 'left' with one thing...propaganda. The left uses the media as did the Nazi's in the 30s when they were rising to power. They use the media to manufacture news....not report it. :readit:

Wonder when Stefanie McWilliams is going to retract her #pizzagate fake news? You remember, where she almost destroyed an innocent man's business and reputation.

pizzagate is one thing and i dont believe any credible organizations ran it.

Here we have the organization on whose word alone, we are basing the fact that russia hacked the election to help trump. Its the WAPO claiming they have that 19 agency report or something govt actually hasnt said anything.

You've gotta be kidding me.

This is WHAT YOU DO ON THIS BOARD. You jump on every thread with some variation of "but what about when a liberal did this?"

It's hopeless. He's hopeless. I tried to explain to him that this is why I thread ban him but he still doesn't get it.

OMG, of course it was in the mainstream news, even if only to debunk it. How did so many repubs come to believe it was true if it wasn't out there?

"Nearly half of registered Republicans believe Hillary Clinton’s failed presidential campaign is implicated in a satanic child abuse ring operated from beneath a Washington, D.C., pizzeria, according to the results of a new poll released this week.

In spite of being debunked and refuted as a baseless conspiracy theory, 49 percent of Republicans questioned during a recent YouGov/Economist survey said there’s at least some truth to the so-called “Pizzagate” scandal said to involve Mrs. Clinton’s campaign.

Among the questions asked by pollsters was whether respondents believed that leaked emails stolen from Mrs. Clinton’s campaign manager and published by WikiLeaks prior to the Nov. 8 election “contained code words for pedophilia, human trafficking and satanic ritual abuse — what some people refer to as ‘Pizzagate.’ “

More than a third of American adults said the so-called Pizzagate accusations involving Mrs. Clinton’s staff were “probably” or “definitely” true, as did nearly half of registered Republicans, according to pollsters.

Specifically, 9 percent of registered Republicans who responded to the question said the allegations were “definitely true,” coupled with 40 percent of Republicans casting the claim as “probably true.”

What bullshit. You have Christiefan running around talking about pizza gate. But of course you only care when a non liberal does.

In fact, you do the same thing quite often. Pull the plank from your eye crybaby.

Oh look, here it is again they do it too, but no way will thing complain about and no way Christiefan sees her massive hypocrisy.

I wish there were smarter liberals on this board.
