Should we DISbelieve history?

We needn't go all the way back to Smoot-Hawley to know the detriment dangerous protectionism threatens.
"We know that protectionism makes the world poorer." George Will
Further:
pointing to "saving" 800 jobs out of a job market of 100,000,000 is ridiculous.

We KNOW there was an upside; crony-capitalism though it was.
I've never seen a one-sided coin.
Anyone here care to mention the compensatory down-side?

I recall being assured of major economic disaster if Trump won the election. I also remember being assured there was no cause for alarm, as Hillary was ensured of certain victory.

So now, when the same people assure me of something, I wonder if it would be wise to believe them.

And we'll know in 4 (or 8) years if such prediction is true.
"I also remember being assured there was no cause for alarm, as Hillary was ensured of certain victory."
Right.
BUT !!
That's hardly attributable to a political partisan conspiracy.

Instead, it's an issue with private sector polling.

Whatever.

The Republican demigod Reagan's standard was:

Were we better off after 8 years of President GWB?

ARE YOU FRICK IN %$#@in' ME ?!?!

Paint the beginning of the GWB administration in as dire a cast as you can possibly manage.
It still pales in comparison to the state of the Union 7 years, and 364 days later.

Yes.....I was.....my taxes were lower and my insurance preminds were deductible....the housing industry mess hadn't impacted me because I had not borrowed more money than I could pay back....

Is the economy better off NOW then it was when GWB left office. That IS the standard created by Ronaldus Maximus. No one ever mentions that the recovery in the 80's started because of Carter's appointment of Volker to head the fed. So again, is the US better off today than it was on January 21, 2009?

Well....except for ten trillion dollars in new debt.....a health care system eliminated and fewer people working than anytI me in the last fifty years.....middle class income at historical lows....shucks....except for everything!....

what history has t osay-about-the-economy-trump-will-inherit

a) Compared to WHAT ?!

b) The previous U.S. president (GWB [R-TX]) inherited a nation that was stable. Our troops were not at war. Our economy was not in shambles. Our homeland was safe after 8 years of the Democrat philanderer in chief.

c) Then the Republicans took charge.
After 8 years of that:
- the U.S. had suffered the worst terrorist attack on the U.S. homeland in history, thousands dead, $Billions in destruction
- we were a nation at Wars
- multiple inadequate emergency responses, Hurricanes Rita and Katrina for examples
- the economy had blown up; "sub-prime mortgage meltdown" for example.
- private sector job losses reportedly ~800K / month.

That's what Senator Obama faced when he awakened inauguration day.

Nearly 8 years later, unemployment is listed as being cut in half.
The stock market has soared, though in recent days (since Trump was elected) has turned downward.

Bottom Line: Bush took a good situation, and made it vastly worse. Obama took a dire situation and made it substantially better. And it is that better situation President Trump will inherit. We'll see how it looks 4 years from now (if we live that long).

yet the right pretends facts are not facts

they lie about everything

that is why they are wrong about everything

bad information in means bad decisions out

PERIOD

Yes.....I was.....my taxes were lower and my insurance preminds were deductible....the housing industry mess hadn't impacted me because I had not borrowed more money than I could pay back....

The only ones the housing industry mess impacted were those that never should have been allowed to borrow the money in the first place.
http://steadfastfinances.com/blog/2...driver-losing-her-800000-home-to-foreclosure/

People like this school bus driver should never have been loaned the money to buy such a pricey house. In the end, she lost something due to a social experiment that never should have occurred.

I must have been an adult before all the expert predicting. I bet a ton of money on Trump. Suckers.
