Obama's Last Stand

#13

Does the settlements issue change a U.S. policy position. I thought the U.S. has acknowledged they are illegal for several presidential administrations; whether Republican or Democrat.

Netanyahu has been deliberately, publicly, gratuitously rude to Obama.
This could end up being both good for Netanyahu (a maniac by rational standard) and for the good peoples of Israel as well.

Netanyahu needed to be smacked down. Obama's given him a love-tap.
And if the Israelis know what's good for them, they'll vote Netanyahu out of office entirely.

PS
Procedurally the U.S. didn't "do". It merely refused to block it.
it changed long standing policy ( surviving more then 1 POTUS) to allow UN Resolutions to solely name Israel.
You are correct in that the 2 State policy exists - but because the UN is so wankily weighted against Israel -
the policy of the US was always to veto such.

^ Obama did not "wisely pick his battles". He refused to prosecute any legislative agenda. He refused to compromise.
He used a "pen and a phone" exclusively in the 2nd term, and much of the first.

Yes the Republicans were obstructionists - but as I have been pointing out the Dems are headed down the same path
with Trump.
When they do that they lose all moral high ground, and all ability to blame the Repub obstructionism for Obama

No gratuitous disrespect to FOX / Lead here,
but some bells can be un-rung.

"Obama administration blocked future oil and gas leases in swaths of the Arctic and Atlantic oceans"

Why couldn't President Trump simply unblock them with the same presidential authority?

Or is Trump worried about the stain on his record if there were an oil spill in those delicate ecosystems?

Neither side has clean hands here.

For the Republicans to refuse to fulfill their Constitutionally enumerated obligation of advise & consent to fill the open seat in the SCOTUS is rather the more obvious, more flagrant violation.

There's nothing in the Constitution that says a president has to approve arctic oil drilling leases.

Theoretically, Trump can't unblock them because there is no provision in that law to do so.

Nation's Biggest Shale Oil Field Found in Texas. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) announced it found the largest continuous oil and gas deposit ever discovered in the U.S. The Wolfcamp shale sits in West Texas and contains 20 billion barrels of oil and 16 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.Nov 17, 2016

again this is how its going to go

1. Trump will do some sort of EO to unblock

2. Someone challenges in SC

3. By the time it gets to SC there will be 5 conservatives and it will side with trump.

You got step 2 wrong. Step 2 is an immediate challenge with a federal judge, who will uphold the law as written.

why?....because he's as stupid as you are?......not likely.....besides, all Congress has to do is fast track an authorization for Trump to trash it, it passes he signs it.....case closed.....

No stupid fuck. Because it's a LAW that's been in effect since Truman, with NO provision for reversing the President's decision. Except for an act of Congress. Good luck with that! lol

its an executive order......not backed up by any other authority.......its paper and nothing more......one match and its history......

It's spaghetti at the wall behavior. Whatever sticks desperation. Tie up Trumps attention. Some things have legal difficulties, others time constraints. Obamas behavior is petty and stupid. Be that as it may, it's an assholes last stand.

The count down clock to freedom is 25 days.
