That's what evince is too stupid to get. The Constitution says nothing when it comes to popular votes electing a President and everything about electoral votes. While each State now uses popular votes to determine who gets their designated electoral votes, there's nothing in the Constitution that says it has to be done that way. It's logical to assume that the founders may not have wanted popular votes to play any role. All they indicated was that each State got a certain number equal to it's members in Congress (House + 2) and that it took a majority of whatever the total happened to be to become the winner. They even included, later procedurally modified by the 12th Amendment, what would happen if someone didn't get a majority and it still doesn't mention popular votes.

Those two States were a given for Hillary. No one expected Trump to win them. The total of the two is 84 electoral votes. By spotting those to Hillary, she already had 37% of the total electoral votes she'd receive without really having much to worry about.

I understand that completely. My point was that two States that were an automatic for Clinton made up so much of her overall total without any effort from her to get them. If you look at the other states she won, none of them are a real shock, either. What that means is, for the most part, her entire electoral vote count came from places that she likely would have won with little to no effort campaigning.

Yes. Trump spotted her two huge vote totals and still mopped up the floor with her. All the states she did contest, she lost. I wonder if anyone still believes polls.
