Past couple of weeks:
China flooded Taiwanese airspace after the Trump phone call.
China's militarization of the South China sea ( drege islands with armaments)

And today this drone seizure in international water...China is on the move. The are gonna do a YUGE defense build up this decade.

Separate out any Sino-Russian relationships where possible. Russia can be swayed - we have leverage, not so much with China

I've only read one article on it, and it was some time ago.
It reported a "100 year plan" for China to achieve global dominance.

Let's consider a few facts:

- Hitler's Germany tried to seize global dominance, but attempted it with blitz krieg, and ultimately failed. Now neo-nazis are know for their hair(less) style more than their open-palm salute.

- The Soviet Union's politburo was so inept it bankrupted itself, and no longer exists.

- North Korea's politburo is so ruthless, hogging far too much of NK's GDP to itself that millions of NKs have starved to death. NK's economy is a basket case.

- China's politburo (reportedly only 7 members) is nimble and quite clever. Unlike the Soviet Union, China isn't growing weaker, it's growing stronger, albeit under "central planning". When they wanted a "bullet train" they got one in a fraction of the time it would have taken in the U.S.

Whether or not the islands China is creating will withstand the sovereign territory test in international court I do not know. But I think it elevates China's claim above any of the other contestants.

China's leaders seem to understand, if they try to do it all at once the way Hitler did, there'll be blowback.

BUT !!

Spend a century implementing it gradually, and it won't raise the kind of alarm that unified the Allies to defeat the Axis.

- China is far ahead of us solar and wind power generation, having far more patents than any other country and being THE major source of alternative energy equipment.

- China has the fastest supercomputers in the world - 5 times as fast as the best the US has. They are using their own designs and all their own parts. Such computers are key in analyzing problems such as weather, climate, nuclear weapons, etc.

- China is investing heavily in education. They are pushing foreign university degrees as well as their own. They are offering major signing bonuses to experts in the US to come to China, trolling Silicone Valley, for example. Bonuses can top $1M.

- China's economy is healthy and growing, making US trade sanctions now essentially pointless when confronting global problems such as Iran. We, alone, could not have moved Iran on forcing inspections, for example.

When we moved from agriculture to manufacturing, corporations needed employees with more than 8th grade education. So, the US produced a public high school system and made it a requirement. Today, we're moving past manufacturing where other nations have caught up with us. Our competition with other countries will be in information, innovation, etc., and will require university education.

This thing with China isn't about the military.

It's about our ability to compete with them, when the competition is based on educated brains and they have 4 times as much raw material as we have. It's about markets for products, where the US is 5% of the world.

They have the advantage of not having to sell their direction to an under educated populace - like we do. They can notice where the competition is, and can make the infrastructure changes to go there (by investing in education, in certain technologies, etc.), even if it isn't based on near term return to rich investors - like we do.

OMG fanboy, China isn't ahead of us in anything.

China has more raw materials then the US? where?
I know they use soft power more effectively to gain access to raw materials -yes.

China has a YUGE population, and their model of central planing has gotten them this far, but now they have to move away from a command economy. There GDP is shrinking, and their middle class growth depends on that.

The Communist party is largely corrupt, and moving to full privitization has it's problems - but yes they are a long term rival.

What we don't need is them as a threat, but it looks like they are determined to militarize the South China sea,
and conquer/claim those resources.

The "raw material" I was pointing to is ... brains. For every Gates, Zuckerberg, and Bezos we have, they have 4 who are equally endowed.

They are far from fully centrally planned. They have melded planning and capitalism in a way that appears to be effective, allowing easier planning for investment in infrastructure, science/engineering, education, etc., while allowing capitalism to take advantage.

And, we're not going to go to war in the South China Sea.

You're a moron.
