Palin calls Carrier deal 'crony capitalism'

Good there are still a few in that party w/ "the balls" to call out the crony demagogue... :hand:

(CNN)Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin -- an early supporter of Donald Trump who is under consideration to serve in his Cabinet -- is criticizing the use of subsidies to keep an Indiana-based air conditioning company from sending jobs to Mexico, a move the President-elect has spotlighted as one of his first victories since being elected.

"When government steps in arbitrarily with individual subsidies, favoring one business over others, it sets inconsistent, unfair, illogical precedent," she wrote
Friday in a "Young Conservatives" column. "Meanwhile, the invisible hand that best orchestrates a free people's free enterprise system gets amputated. Then, special interests creep in and manipulate markets."

"Republicans oppose this, remember? Instead, we support competition on a level playing field, remember? Because we know special interest crony capitalism is one big fail," Palin added.

Trump helped broker the deal with Carrier that gave them $7 million in financial incentives over the next decade to keep 1,000 jobs at an Indianapolis plant, though some jobs are still going to Mexico. Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence, who is governor of Indiana, toured the site Thursday.
Trump didn't save as many Carrier jobs as he claimed

But Palin said when the government chooses companies to favor, the American economy is "doomed."
"Politicians picking and choosing recipients of corporate welfare is railed against by fiscal conservatives, for it's a hallmark of corruption. And socialism," the former Republican vice presidential candidate said. "A $20 trillion debt-ridden country can't afford this sinfully stupid practice, so vigilantly guard against its continuance, or we're doomed."

Palin -- who endorsed Trump early in the campaign -- is reportedly being considered to be Trump's secretary of veterans affairs or for interior secretary.
"However well meaning, burdensome federal government imposition is never the solution. Never. Not in our homes, not in our schools, not in churches, not in businesses," she wrote.

"Gotta' have faith the Trump team knows all this. And I'll be the first to acknowledge concerns over a deal cut by leveraging taxpayer interests to make a manufacturer stay put are unfounded -- once terms are made public."

What you do is this: Require companies that outsource labor to calculate the hourly labor component of the product and charge a tax/tariff equivalent to double the normal employer matching of american labor

Palin seems to not be aware that just about every city and state in the nation does exactly what happened here.....they make deals with businesses with
tax breaks and zoning restriction breaks, and build roads and bridges, and sometimes guarantee loans, etc., to attract those companys into their cities and states.....
You can call it 'crony capitalism' if you like, but its as common as air.....

Then she says ""However well meaning, burdensome federal government imposition is never the solution. Never. Not in our homes, not in our schools, not in churches, not in businesses."

That seems to be in direct opposition to her initial complaint....
What is a big tax levied on a business that is willing to locate and build in your city if not "burdensome government imposition" ?

It's crony capitalism. It is gobblement picking winners and losers. Palin is right. Saying "the states do it all the time" is a crock. Trump is wrong on this and should be called out.

It violates free market principles. Now if he wants to make a better business climate for all that is different.

Now the OP is full of it because the OP loves democrat crony capitalism (see Solyndra).

Sorry can't back Trump on this

how about simply excising the wage difference between our First World and the Third World?

I hate to call people stupid but you should educate yourself before you post your stupidity for all to see.....I've got many more examples if you need them...

The Kansas Department of Revenue provides an outreach program that furnishes information about the tax incentives available to individuals and businesses in Kansas. The department visits with cities, counties, chambers, businesses and other groups to promote the Kansas tax incentives.

Our goals are to first make our customers aware of the Kansas tax incentives offered and second to provide our customers with the information necessary to understand and qualify for the tax incentives made available through Kansas law.

Michigan lawmakers are considering eliminating the Personal Property Tax. That’s a tax businesses pay on equipment. The money goes directly to local units of government. Businesses say it’s a complicated tax that punishes them for investing in equipment.

The federal government offers a wide variety of tax breaks that could help your business not only survive, but thrive.

No we don't.
We prefer fair, open competition to crony capitalism.
So you believe she is 100% correct..

Is this what we can expect now from dear leader?? Not like he cares, he is now playing w/ our money, not his...

If this were a long term policy, it would be correctly harshly criticized -as a one shot deal it's simply fulfilling a campaign promise..

Long term the improvement of a business enviornment is needed (less regs/tax reform) along with some push back on corporate greed.
Corporate greed -not "labor costs" causes a lot of this outsourcing

Nova, how many of the deals you posted were done as a threat from the POTUS about losing future gov't contracts?

Probably non of the examples I posted.....but when I worked for Western Electric, the beneficiary of thousands of military contracts in those days, when the gov.

spoke, the company listened....

combination of efforts.
Paramount is reducing regulatory overkill -just exactly where and when isn't defined yet,
but I'm sure you'll see some push back on the EPA's WOTUS ( fedral reach into local state waters)..

Interestingly he met with Gore today. It was supposed to just be a Ivana Trump-Gore meeting, but Gore seemed satisfied enugh to say
"to be continued" ( discussions?). I think you'll see reduced emphasis on carbon cap and trade. also Ozone and other assorted greenhouse gases.

Tax reform will simplify/reduce corporate taxes, and individual entrepreneurs too ( small business owners).

Tariffs are last resort.

She was an early supporter of Douchebag Donald in the primary, so, I don't really care what she thinks of his deal-making.
