I think Truman set the U.S. & West on a constructive path. And when the Soviets lined up their aircraft to threaten the Berlin airlift wasn't it Truman that told them if they harmed any of the airlift planes, there would be fires in Moscow?
But every U.S. president for the duration of the Cold War did his contribution.

And crediting Reagan is silly, because Reagan was out of office when the Wall came down. That was on GHWB's watch. Why not credit him?

Is the notion that we're seeing the beginning of the end of democracy? And the democratic process (a significant element of government in our democratic republic)? Democracy will then be defunct?

I've assiduously avoided getting a smart-phone. So I don't know much about Faceplant & Buttpage & all that.

BUT !!

I'm curious if we're nearing the dawn of a renaissance in democracy.
Might smart-phones render polling places obsolete?

And voting yes or no, or picking one candidate over another constitutes exceedingly low bandwidth communication. Is that really suitable in the 3rd millennium when broader bandwidth is available?

the soviet union was already dead before rr took office. the cia was sitting on it because they did not want to lose the funding for fighting the soviet union.
