They defended themselves against Russian fighters quite capably. Militarily, I'd say that's the coolest thing to happen all year (and in my 12 years of air defense).
btw isnt turkey like a russian ally?

It's part of NATO, and if it did have friendly relations with Russia before the shoot-down, I can't imagine that Moscow is expressing its love these days.

I find the inhabitants of Istanbul very likeable, but Turkey is becoming a smelly Islamist dictatorship of the worst kind, and totally abandoning the legacy of Ataturk, except for the squalid bullying of the Kurds. Don't waste your time blathering at civilized people, there's a good unspeakable!
