Why Donald Trump needs to take a salary...

#16

Whatever.
Your comment is an (ostensibly) expert assessment based upon TAX LAW.

I'm somewhat beyond that.

I've profiled Trump.

I'm not Catholic *.

BUT !!

In addition to "greed" avarice is a form of greed / gluttony; in the sense of taking more than he needs.

Trump's life-long pattern has typified avarice.

Has Trump had a sudden conversion to philanthropic charity?
That would explain it. No question at all!

Is that most likely to be the most accurate explanation?

Ockham's Razor: %$#@ NO !

Therefore it appears something else is going on here. What that might be I don't yet know.

BUT !!

a) Trump is literally months away from taking office.

b) Trump hasn't earned a single penny for holding the office yet.

c) I wouldn't rule out learning more about Trump's motivation here. I have the 60 Minutes segment on DVR. I haven't seen it yet. But I may scan it, and if so may find clues there.

It's not that huge a deal.

BUT !!

Has any other U.S. president elect ever made such pledge?
Is it not at very least "noteworthy"?

* The seven deadly sins:
1. Gluttony
2. Anger
3. Envy
4. Greed
5. Lust
6. Pride
7. Sloth

I see nothing wrong with taking the $1.00. The article points out that he could take the $400k and give it to charity. IMHO, I don't believe that's a wise option. The $400k is taxpayer money. Perhaps not every citizen would agree as to which charity should receive the money.

I always shake my head when I see that a government employee's compensation is the taxpayer's money. Such convoluted bullshit.

PS
"JFK never took his presidential salary .. if I recall correctly. If I remember right, he donated it to charities." #17 pr
Then he took it, and donated it.
Financially there may not seem to be much difference.
But in tax law it's significant.

Why would that matter?
Many if not most candidates for public service make their tax records public.
iirc the Clinton's have done so for decades.

Trump has not.
And Trump's excuse is silly, absurd. Trump said it was because he's being audited.

a) There's no law prohibiting publicizing your own tax records while being audited.

b) Trump isn't being audited for all years. So Trump could release his records for those years. He refuses to do that too.

All that presents at minimum the APPEARANCE that he's hiding something.

Where do you think the treasury gets it?

Whose $money do you think it is, before the People hire a guy, at an agreed upon salary?

Government employees are every bit taxpayers as anyone else. They are not YOUR employee, even though people like you seem to think so.

Elected officials? Something else. The rest? No

Then again, there is no law saying its mandatory to make your tax records public ever.......
If this politicized IRS finds no laws being broken by a taxpayer, why do you give a shit.

It is the employee's money once paid.
Perhaps you are not so astute depite your commentary.

"Government employees are every bit taxpayers as anyone else." #26
Yes.
That's the rule.

BUT !!

Know it or not, believe it or not, like it or not, admit it or not; some rules have exceptions; INCLUDING this one.

It's reported that Trump went years without paying any U.S. federal income tax; due to real estate exemptions. And he'll be as entitled to those exemptions as president as he was as "reality TV" host.

President Trump may go one or more years, or perhaps every year of his administration, and pay $zero in U.S. federal income tax; if previous trends continue.
"Government employees are every bit taxpayers as anyone else." #26
Not me. I don't get the exemptions Trump gets.
"They are not YOUR employee, even though people like you seem to think so."
Yes. Me and a few billion of my closest friends.

It's called "public service". Just who do you think he's serving, if not the People that elected him?
" there is no law saying its mandatory to make your tax records public ever......." #27
It is customary.
Many if not most candidates for high public office do.
Before Trump, who was the next most recent presidential candidate / president elect that refused?

Because I hold him to the same standard I held the others.

"sure they are.....I pay taxes......they aren't YOUR employees......." #31
Excellent.
According to you:
a) are they employees at all?

b) If you deem them employees, but not the tax-payer's employees, whose employees do you fantasize they are?

c) Would you claim the U.S. is not my country? I don't have a bill of sale for it or anything.
