McConnell finally admits ending ‘war on coal’ might not bring back jobs

Do you think he didn't say what's in the article or what? How is the headline false? The same info is on other sites, not just ThinkProgress.

"Obama has decimated the coal industry, and we're going to bring the coal industry back,” Trump said at a speech in Louisville in March. “The coal industry is going to make a very big comeback.”

But asked at a press conference at the University of Louisville if the GOP would be able to restore the industry that has shed jobs here and in other coal-mining states, McConnell demurred.

McConnell, however, credited the issue of coal with helping turn the election in Republicans' favor in Kentucky state House races and, nationally, in Ohio, which has a coal mining industry. It also may have helped Trump win in Pennsylvania, where coal is mined and where Republicans won a presidential contest for the first time since 1988.

Trump can't do this and Trump can't do that.

Have his critics been right yet? Even once?

This thread isn't about Trump and you started it.

This is what my response was to:

Stupid fucking hillbilly miners believe anything...
Breathing coal dust has rotted their tiny brains...

That was Leon's quote.

C'mon, sure it's about trump. It's about trump's promise to bring back coal, and McConnell's response that the GOP may not be able to bring it back. It's about walking back another trump promise.

Sorry, I was looking for a Leon quote, not a Buck quote. I might not phrase it like he did but I do believe coal miners and anybody else are fooling themselves if they think trump can bring back coal.

He's not in office yet. He's just learning he can't do everything he thinks. As far as his critics, they've been right. trump probably never thought he'd be sued for fraud re: Trump U, and he probably thought he could get rid of judge Curiel by saying Curiel was a biased Hispanic. Also trump thought he could force Nevada about voting and he got smacked down for that, too. I'm sure I can think of others if I try.

The coal miners know better than anyone no one can bring coal back to the glory days. That said, easing some of the Obama era regulations can lower the cost of production and make domestic coal more marketable. Which would lead to at least a modest job increase in the coal fields.

It's bad enough we'll take what we can get.

That would have been a reasonable position for trump to campaign on. Instead he was definite. Believe me.

TRUMP: "We're going to get those miners back to work ... the miners of West Virginia and Pennsylvania, which was so great to me last week, Ohio and all over are going to start to work again, believe me. They are going to be proud again to be miners."

You have two people you can vote for. One says he will loosen EPA laws which will benefit coal minors and one says they will continue down Obama's EPA path. Who do you think would be more appealing to coal minors?

And you have people like Leon backing Hillary who think coal miners are nothing but white trash. Do you think that's going to entice them to vote for Hillary?

We import and export coal every year....a little less import and a little more export and a lot less regulation and those miners will be back to work.....doesn't seem like an insurmountable problem at all....no one ever claimed coal was going to be 'king' again.....

Trump CAN'T do anything right now so the argument is moot until he is sworn in......AS PRESIDENT....

Doesn't seem to make much sense importing coal when it can be produced domestically. If Trump supports clean coal technology then that will be a real advance. Coal isn't going away anytime soon, Germany has just built dozens of new power stations and worldwide demand is set to hit 9 billion tonnes.

Did "Brother Leon" leave to take a job with Nate Silver after his 50 states - 0 Hillary prediction?
