Middle Class moving out of California

Sorry to break it to you but your Trump vision of going to back an economy of the '50's and '60's isn't happening.

and i hate to break it to you but going full free trade when every other nation in the world is protecting and cultivating their industries leads to the situation you are describing.

Sorry my man, the days of huge smoke stacked filled factory where a whole community works isn't coming back. We have people out here building driverless cars for example which are going to take jobs away from drivers of all kinds. We have AI doing incredible things. Jobs of the future will be working with these new technologies. Capital isn't pouring into what you want.

The problem is the cost of housing (at least in LA). I have a nephew makes 80K a year in LA, he pays $1,300. a month for a Studio. Part of the problem with that is domestic and overseas investment in real estate driving up the cost of housing. That something that can be fixed.

No, it's the fact that LA is on the ocean. That effectively reduces the amount of land by a factor of 1/2.

I'm not kidding you, that home is one block down and two blocks over from me. Such is City living that you can have a nobody like me live that close to the most expensive home (this year) in the most expensive City in the country.

I can only imagine what they pay in property taxes. Yet they say the rich don't pay their fair share.

They'll be paying off the charts but in California we have Prop 13 so our property taxes are generally much lower than other states. It's part of what contributes to high housing costs out here.

Well Shaman, if economic inequality is your goal...

.....Then, unemployment must be yours.

November 2, 2016 - "The Los Angeles City Council took a big step Tuesday toward creating possibly the largest legal cannabis market in the United States, if not the world.

The council voted to develop a March ballot measure asking city voters to repeal a 2013 ordinance that both bans medical marijuana businesses and grants “limited immunity” from prosecution to 135 dispensaries, L.A. Weekly reported.

The move was proposed by Council President Herb Wesson, whose measure is called the Cannabis Enforcement, Taxation and Regulation Act. If voters give a thumbs up, the initiative would repeal Proposition D on July 31, 2018, and would hand cannabis industry regulatory authority to the council. Voters approved Proposition D three years ago.

Regulating and legitimizing the cannabis trade in L.A. could jump-start the biggest legal metro marijuana market, worldwide."

it can make a qol factor. Property Taxes in Dublin are very high by Ohio Standards. I pay over 4K on my 1650 sq.ft condo. However our town fathers do an outstanding job investing it so our roads, school, public health, park and recreation, eye, are absolutely outstanding.

Ya' ran-outta those "conservative"-bootstraps, huh??

Da fvck? I guess this is best part of the increasing prices in the Bay Area. Most of the old hippies who fried their brains during the '60's, like Shaman, can't afford to live here anymore.

Maybe yes, maybe no. In post 10 I documented where the opposite was true. The New York governments, both state and local, were so inefficient that most of the money was simply wasted. I worked on dozens if not hundreds of government projects in the 11 years that I lived there and can attest to why- there isn't cooperation between GovCo's and agencies whatsoever. That, and being beholden to unions.

.....Especially when there was significant acreage, available, North of you folks....who need the convenience o' city-life....and, someone-else providing employment (for you)....to survive.

To each his own on that. I'm a city person. I understand not everyone else is.
