But my recollection of what I've read is:
the fastest thing about China's bullet train is the speed with which it was built and put in service.
But I thought Japan's Shinkansen was faster.

They want the railways, no question. The trains in Thailand especially are actually pretty good but are let down because they have to run on 1 metre gauge track and are very slow. The Chinese obviously want them as they will then have far greater access to the other countries in S E Asia.Very interesting.
