Roe v. Wade

A woman has her own body, her own life subject to her own life and death decisions affecting it or by harm from an aggressor. Of course a man does also.

The baby has its own body, its own life whose only instinctive goal is to survive without agressive intervention from the outside of its safe place in the womb where it was placed by God.

Humans seem to be the only species on earth who make a decision to kill their unborn young. The natural God-given instincts given to every living creature from its moment of conception is to protect itself and it's young.

"For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well."
Psalm 139: 13-14

"I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations."
Jeremiah 1:5

I don't think abortion will ever be completely illegal or banned since its such a divisive issue and since it would be too hard to overturn, but I do hope and pray for a day when abortion doesn't even cross the mind of someone who is pregnant. There are other options besides aborting the baby and when alternatives like adoption becomes less expensive and less difficult than abortion and becomes the first thought of someone that becomes pregnant and doesn't want to have the baby instead of the second or third thought then maybe we will start to see those internal moral changes without the courts. Of course the ultimate form of birth control that is 100% effective is abstinence until you are ready, and right after that is the second most effective birth control which is both of you using protection.

There are so many reasons why abortion should be private and available.

Holy shit, this never seems to stop. Just give women IUDs for free and watch the abortion rate tumble...

Truth is that people can get free condoms and free b.c. pills and Depo shots at the Health Dept. It's been available for years. I used to work a Health Dept. here in Florida in the Child Health clinic. Sadly, more of the women wanted more kids so they can get more taxpayer $$$$ their food, shelter & free healthcare. Go figure:mad:

Trump has no interest in his and no time for it.
Between the economy and the corruption and general lawlessness he will have a full plate.
And this is why he as broad appeal.

He doesn't have to. He just needs to replace Scalia with another Scalia. And wait for Ginsberg to croak which can't be long. Then another Scalia. Then wait for another liberal to counterbalance that dick Roberts and Trump can stand by while someone brings it back to the court and Roe v Wade is no more. Then it goes back to the stars where it belongs.

The idea that anti abortionist people want to "control women's bodies" is ridiculous.

Abortion kills the life of an unborn child. The farcical "right" bestowed on women to be able to wantonly kill another's "body" is grossly barbaric.

It really is on the ballot next week. The last few votes involving Roe have been close.

I'm torn on the court in general. I don't want a liberal court, but by the same token, I don't want one that is ultra-conservative either. I like a close split. I think it's utterly bogus that they won't act on Obama's nominee, who is fairly moderate, because they "have to" replace Scalia with a conservative. Will Republicans be so concerned about replacing Ginsburg w/ a liberal?

I know Roe going away will cause some here & nationwide to rejoice. I don't think people really understand what a post-Roe world looks like. It's a real step back for women. But if Trump wins, women are going to see a lot of that.

Let's be clear about this, also: I know that there are some on the pro-life side who are genuinely pro LIFE. And I'm cool w/ that. We just disagree on abortion rights. But I think many on that side just want to control women. I think that's more clear this election cycle than it ever has been.

i truly believe people are vastly over concened about roe-v-wade in terms of it being abolished. The paranoia is way higher than for example the 2nd amendment diehards who imo have a much stronger case to be paranoid. If roe-v-wade is as popular as everyone thinks it is, then many states will start legalizing it anyway in very short order. I am pro-choice (the thought of having some women deciding to keep a baby is a nightmare for me and I want abortion viewed as benign as getting a haircut). But truthfully the way roe-v-wade came about is kinda bullshit and that's what happens when you try to ham-fistingly try to get things rammed through the courts. If pro-choice people spent the last 3 decades legalizing it on a state by state basis they wouldn't have to be looking over their shoulders every 4 years. The issues of gay marriage and weed basically crushed it within a decade, no reason pro-choice couldn't have got the same shit done.

I mean, you're not talking about guys like Souter, are you?

If Trump can pack a court with Scalia-like conservatives, there are groups that are chomping at the bit to put cases before the court that would challenge the legitimacy of Roe and allow the court to walk back the precedent. When Trump & Pence have talked about the court, this is their #1 issue. They may have an opportunity to appoint more justices - and replace more liberal appointees - than any President in recent memory.

People keep saying it can't happen. I think it's likely if Trump gets elected, and keeps to his word. The only caveat on that is that he might not keep to his word (Ivanka definitely has his ear on women's rights). He could go all Souter & Roberts on conservatives.

He isn't really serious about all the other stuff but he is this??

I don't think so, certainly no more than his other 15,000 promises no one thinks he is going to keep..

He is using it as a wedge, a tool, just as he said-they have to support me now because of the supreme court....

I want a court that resembles the people

a liberal court
we already have a branch of government meant for representing the people. it's called the (wait for it..) ..representative branch - i.e. congress. The Supreme Court isn't meant to bend to popular will by design. That's why they aren't elected and why they get life tenure, so they can't be manipulated by the public's whims. 3rd grade government stuff right here.

Good for you. I'm glad you settled that for me; I was wondering for so long.

I'm cancelling my end of the ban bet on you for this comment. A+ lol. In fairness to you, I will still hold up my end should I lose and I will still ban myself. I am offering you basically a 5% freeroll at this point.
