Roe v. Wade

It really is on the ballot next week. The last few votes involving Roe have been close.

I'm torn on the court in general. I don't want a liberal court, but by the same token, I don't want one that is ultra-conservative either. I like a close split. I think it's utterly bogus that they won't act on Obama's nominee, who is fairly moderate, because they "have to" replace Scalia with a conservative. Will Republicans be so concerned about replacing Ginsburg w/ a liberal?

I know Roe going away will cause some here & nationwide to rejoice. I don't think people really understand what a post-Roe world looks like. It's a real step back for women. But if Trump wins, women are going to see a lot of that.

Let's be clear about this, also: I know that there are some on the pro-life side who are genuinely pro LIFE. And I'm cool w/ that. We just disagree on abortion rights. But I think many on that side just want to control women. I think that's more clear this election cycle than it ever has been.

Roe v Wade is settled law ( stare decisis) -what makes yo think there could be a majority that throws it out?
It's just Clinton fear mongering,and Trump's bloviating.

No, it isn't. The balance of the court could shift dramatically in the next admin, either way. Possibly up to 3-4 justices.

They can definitely overturn Roe.

I want a court that resembles the people

a liberal court

it's not just the number..of course anything can happen -but there would have to be like 3-4 really extremists.
The ruling is based on the 14th . I can't think of anything where the equal protection clause is overturned.

Once it's in -it's in.

There have been seven Republican justices on the court previously and it wasn't overturned. Why would this time be different?

Roe isn't going anywhere. That said, a conservative court could nibble around the edges on abortion.

I mean, you're not talking about guys like Souter, are you?

If Trump can pack a court with Scalia-like conservatives, there are groups that are chomping at the bit to put cases before the court that would challenge the legitimacy of Roe and allow the court to walk back the precedent. When Trump & Pence have talked about the court, this is their #1 issue. They may have an opportunity to appoint more justices - and replace more liberal appointees - than any President in recent memory.

People keep saying it can't happen. I think it's likely if Trump gets elected, and keeps to his word. The only caveat on that is that he might not keep to his word (Ivanka definitely has his ear on women's rights). He could go all Souter & Roberts on conservatives.

so says the racist traitor to our country, whose laws should be based on the CONSTITUTION and not knee jerk reactionary idiots like you.

I've been reading up on slavery in detail, and slavery is what Nazi scum like ThickerthanShit really believe in, so it seems to me that a Constitution written largely by slave-owners is a sensible replacement for toilet paper.

I don't think abortion will ever be completely illegal or banned since its such a divisive issue and since it would be too hard to overturn, but I do hope and pray for a day when abortion doesn't even cross the mind of someone who is pregnant. There are other options besides aborting the baby and when alternatives like adoption becomes less expensive and less difficult than abortion and becomes the first thought of someone that becomes pregnant and doesn't want to have the baby instead of the second or third thought then maybe we will start to see those internal moral changes without the courts. Of course the ultimate form of birth control that is 100% effective is abstinence until you are ready, and right after that is the second most effective birth control which is both of you using protection.

there are history classes for a reason. you should take about a dozen to cure your idiocy of revisionism.

Honestly, I think the vast majority want a day when abortion is extremely rare or isn't practiced. While I think abstinence is unrealistic in general, I think there is a lot more we can be doing to prevent unwanted pregnancies.
