Jennifer Rubin: Do women still have a place in the GOP?

Jennifer Rubin is a conservative columnist. She gets it.

Donald Trump, who was 59 at the time, talked openly to Billy Bush about sexually assaulting women. He now calls his numerous female accusers liars and manipulates Bill Clinton’s accusers like puppets on a string. He openly cheated on the mother of his children (calling media to brag about his affairs), has a history of crudely insulting women and has spoken in creepy, sexualized terms about his daughter. In the final debate, Mr. Trump was put back on his heels for a third time. He lashed out, calling Hillary Clinton a “nasty woman.” He is angry, impulsive and mean. That’s the nominee.

A onetime top surrogate, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, is notorious for bullying the press, the public — and the mayor of Fort Lee, N.J., it is alleged. His underling Bridget Anne Kelly testified in the Bridgegate scandal trial about Mr. Christie’s explosive temper and recalled an instance in which he allegedly threw a water bottle at her.

Thrice-married, notorious adulterer Rudy Giuliani went to the Republican National Convention and led the call to “lock her up.” He has popped up on one Sunday show after another to smear Mr. Trump’s accusers and argue that language used in the “Access Hollywood” tape is standard fare in locker rooms. (Looking horrified, CNN’s Jake Tapper rebutted that.)

Top policy adviser Sen. Jeff Sessions has questioned whether the conduct Mr. Trump boasted about is really sexual assault. It’s a Todd Akin moment, which is appropriate, since Mr. Trump campaign chief Kellyanne Conway worked for Mr. Akin as well.

Tuesday night, Trump confidant Newt Gingrich went on Megyn Kelly’s Fox News show, then proceeded to lose it. He screamed and pointed his finger at her, accusing her of having an obsession with sex. Mr. Trump’s social media director then tweeted, “Megyn Kelly made a total fool out of herself tonight — attacking Donald Trump. Watch what happens to her after this election is over.” (She didn’t make a fool out of herself, and was that a threat or a prediction?)

Let’s not forget that Roger Ailes, forced out of Fox News for multiple alleged, gross acts of sexual harassment, is a pal of Mr. Trump and reportedly counseled him on debate prep.

Corey Lewandowski, Mr. Trump’s fired campaign manager, was caught on tape manhandling a female reporter. He and Mr. Trump denied it; her employer, run by now-campaign CEO Stephen K. Bannon, attempted to smear her.

Is there a pattern here? White, unhinged men, most well past their prime, acting abusively toward women.

It is remarkable the company Mr. Trump keeps and how these men find solace in each other’s company. In their fury and contempt for women, they reveal how uncivilized they are. They occupy space far outside the norms of polite society, one in which women are there to do as the men want and are called liars, nasty and devious if they object. Mr. Trump and company use power to go after people they perceive as weaker than they are. They assume that women can be taunted, abused and kept quiet.

Now, within the Republican Party, this behavior is not disqualifying. Its presidential nominee has established a new, grotesque standard for how leaders and their team talk and act toward women. He loses neither the party’s support nor the respect of his sycophants in the right-wing media and elsewhere. Needless to say, Mr. Trump’s share of the women’s vote, especially the college-educated women’s vote, is plummeting. The GOP has had a problem with single women voters for years; now married women will likely walk on the party as well.

Beyond the election, Republican women will need to decide whether they really want to be Republicans. It’s increasingly hard to imagine independent, professional women — really, any women — remaining in a party that is so rife with abuse and disrespect, so reminiscent of old-boy networks 30 years out of date. It’s not even clear what the party could do to purge itself of the misogyny.
What place is there for women in a party of white, angry, abusive men, with no one willing to put an end to Mr. Trump’s antics? Increasingly, the answer will be: none.

Women can leave the shell of the Republican National Committee to the bully boys as their own locker room — and can help lead the center-right party that replaces it.

Rubin is a severe #nevertrump, so take that into consideration

Um, yeah - because he hates women.

I have heard MANY women on the right express what the OP is stating. Frankly, I don't know how any woman, anywhere, can vote for Trump. If there is a more committed misogynist in public life, I'm not aware of them.

we will end up trading after this election (aka realignment) the bush wing of the party which includes this girl will join the democrats and if everything works out the micheal moore types will join us.

So you want all Democrats to become Republicans. PMP and ILA, thoughts? Do you share this vision of a future Republican Party?

That should tell you something, that a committed conservative could turn against her party's candidate.
#never Trump's are establishment conservatives -Trump threatens the entire bloated order of DC.
The Republican establishment hates him as much as the Dem's.

the split is populist v. establishment politics

That's too simplistic a breakdown. Trump has alienated many more than merely the 'establishment.'

Trump's piggishness is so ingrained it's impossible for him to change now.

"Shark Tank
star Barbara Corcoran is joining a growing group of women who have come forward with sexual assault allegations against Donald Trump.

In an interview with CNN anchor Erin Burnett on Thursday, Corcoran revealed that she had once been the target of Trump's inappropriate and lewd comments when she and the Republican presidential nominee sat in on a business meeting together.

"I've never been in a room with him alone except on one occasion. I was pregnant with my first child at the time, and so was his second wife," she said. "He compared my breast size to his wife by putting his hands in the air. [Makes gestures.] I was in a business meeting! I was shocked."

When asked by Burnett if she believed all of the recent claims made against Trump, Corcoran noted, "I very much do. I just think it's preposterous that he's claiming he's done nothing like that. He's been that way, always."

I do see a pattern here.....liberal Democrats desperately plying their trade at character assassination of Trump and

anyone that dares to support him by repeating unproven accusations over and over and over,

so voters don't focus on Hillary Clinton's corruption, compulsive lying, and incompetence and proven crimes.

The truth isn't character assassination Bravo you ignorant slut.
