Donald Trump went on the offensive against a military expert and former dean of the Army War College, Jeff McCausland, who said the Republican nominee’s comments this weekend about the battle to reclaim Mosul in Iraq show he doesn’t have a firm grasp of military strategy.

“You can tell your military expert that I’ll sit down and I’ll teach him a couple of things,” Trump told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos in an exclusive interview.

On Sunday, Trump tweeted that the ongoing offensive against the ISIS stronghold of Mosul is turning out to be a “total disaster.”

“We gave them months of notice. U.S. is looking so dumb. VOTE TRUMP and WIN AGAIN!” he tweeted. Trump doubled down on his assertion that the element of surprise is an important military strategy.

But according to The New York Times, some military experts disagree with Trump’s claims that the element of surprise is crucial to win the fight against ISIS.

“What this shows is Trump doesn’t know a damn thing about military strategy,” McCausland told the Times.

McCausland replied to Trump's comments to Stephanopoulos in a lengthy statement today, saying, “I can’t wait to sit down with Mr. Trump and hear what he has to teach me about military strategy. I’m happy to compare my record of over 45 years working in national security affairs with his any time.

"When it comes to the question of the Mosul offensive, Mr. Trump doesn’t understand that 99.9 percent of the troops involved are Iraqi," McCausland continued. "I reassert my statement to The New York Times: Mr. Trump doesn’t know a damn thing about military strategy.”

Hitler was a military strategist too, and look where it got Germany?!!

element of surprise is helpful,but with the long slog and preps ( village by village) to run a counter-offensive;
nothing is secret.

Trump is wrong about that, but Obama was wrong about "JV" and Clinton was terribly wrong about Libya en toto a massive bombing campaign - creating a failed terrorist state..

Nobody looks all that swift about any of this. If it wasn't for Iran (Qods) there would be no offensive on Mosul

The attack on Mosul was obvious, it was the last step the Iraqi army had to take to reclaim their country. I mean, Jesus Christ, this is like trying to tell the Soviets to stay quiet about their final march on Berlin.

You gotta wonder , what would Gen. Patton say, or Gen. MacArthur, ......all that work Eisenhower put in to keep D Day a secret for nothing.....

This isn't about Obama and Clinton. It's about Trump's obvious ignorance combined with arrogance in his statements like "I know more about ISIS than the generals do" and "I'll teach military experts a couple of things about Mosul."

Jeff McCausland has over 45 years working on national security, Trump has zilch.

It is such a ridiculous notion, what an overgrown ego, it's bigly.

Wow ..... 45 years in national security....and Hillary was sending classified material to everybody for years right under his very nose and he didn't hear about it....or do anything if he did.
go figure.

Just joking.....I'm being facetious and sarcastic as I'm sure Trump is doing....

If you are going to bring up Mosul, then bring up Mosul, and how we got here, as much as where we go from here.

Now you're criticizing the expert? Newsflash bravs, it's not always about Hillary.

I would love to hear Trump's complete views on Mosul but that'll never happen because he doesn't have anything but know-it-all sound bites.

We have five-star general Trump saying such things as “Boy, oh boy. What a bunch of amateurs,” and “Why can’t they win first, and talk later? Why do they have to say three months before the attack we are going in? So, you can tell your military expert that I’ll sit down and I’ll teach him a couple of things.”

Btw, the troop surge of 2007 was announced in advance and I don't recall criticism of that.

yes.but the surge isn't tactics.or even a strategic operation. It's overall policy

D-day was not a surprise, where it was going to be was.........

W/ his shiny medals for neatness the pompus ass is gonna preach to our military?? :rofl2: what a fuckin joke:palm:

??What does overall policy consist of??

All of us armchair generals can agree/disagree, but if I was to bet I would put money on the man w/ 45 years experience as opposed to the man w/ ZERO EXPERIENCE.. just sayin!!

theyve pretty much failed so far.

He'll also teach musicians a couple of things about music, writers a couple of things about writing, geologists a couple of things about geology, scientists in general a couple of things about science and, doubtless, have them sent to Alaska if they don't learn. Stalin was very similar.
