Wonderful Idea For Homeless Vets

#19

a) I'm all for frugal government policy.

b) $10K for that?
If so it would have to be quite used. I just bought a Honda Civic, and paid over $20K for it. I'm guessing wildly a new unit like that would cost closer to $100K.

However,
why not?
Used mobile homes might be the kind of bargain we need to leverage limited resources to address this nationwide problem. Thanks Pm, for thinking outside the box.

and why do you need to buy a new unit?......I used to own a 28 foot motor home......went to an auction and we were talking about buying a new pop-up camper for $5-6k.....there was a twenty year old motor home with an interior that smelled like dogs......the opening bid was $3000.....I bid $3250.....and there was absolute silence....had to call the wife and say "Guess what!"....put in new carpet from remnants, replaced the mattresses with new futons, slapped a coat of white paint in the walls and ceiling (spent $180) and used it for 8 years.......then the kids were teenagers and weren't into camping any more so I sold it for $2800.....

As the final line in #21 attests, you are in complete accord w/ me on it.

Just one comment:

"....the opening bid was $3000.....I bid $3250.....and there was absolute silence...."

a) been there

b) done that

c) Next time, bid $3,000.01 *

* A few decades ago there were prospective oil fields in Alaska that were being auctioned off.
Major oil companies sent experienced teams there to do geological surveys, and determine the potential value for return on investment for each of the parcels on auction.

And there were multiple bids on the parcels that had clear potential for petroleum wells.

BUT !!

A few of the parcels that seemed to have less potential for drilling were not bid on.

BUT !!

An enterprising bloke took a gamble, and bid $1.oo on every single parcel.
And he ended up winning several of them.

And as it turned out, they became extremely valuable properties; ideal for staging areas for the corporations that would be conducting drilling operations on adjacent parcels.
The $1.oo bidder soon made a fabulous $fortune selling his parcels to the highest bidders.
