Don't mention Israel

Hillary Clinton shouldn’t mention Israel in her campaign’s launch speech because it wouldn’t play well with Democratic Party activists, several top campaign advisers agreed last year.

The discussion, contained in the latest batch of hacked emails from campaign chairman John Podesta, took place in May 2015, as Clinton advisers were working on the candidate’s launch speech and the language that would become her stump speech.

Wikileaks posted the exchange online. The U.S. director of national intelligence and the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security have accused “Russia’s senior-most officials” of hacking and leaking emails to influence the 2016 election.

While discussing Clinton’s launch speech, Jake Sullivan, one of Clinton’s foreign policy advisers, suggested adding “a sentence on standing up for our allies and values, including Israel and other fellow democracies.”

Mandy Grunwald, a speechwriter, replied: “I thought this was largely for her TP [talking points] with public events not fundraisers. Do we need Israel etc for that?”
llivan responds: “We def need the etc. I think good to have Israel too.”

Joel Benenson, a leading pollster who worked for the Obama campaigns, agreed with Grunwald on avoiding mention of Israel.

His comments were followed by those of Robby Mook, Clinton’s campaign manager, who said that the party’s liberal base would be alienated by pro-Israel rhetoric: “I’m w Joel. We shouldn’t have Israel at public events. Especially dem activists.”

After more back and forth, the campaign agreed not to include pro-Israel language in public speeches.
“She can drop in Israel when she’s with donors,” speechwriter Dan Schwerin concluded.

In a 2013 paid speech that had not been previously disclosed, Clinton said that in order “to be successful, politically … you need both a public and a private position” on controversial issues.

Polls show declining support for Israel among political progressives and liberal Democrats

It's no wonder Netanyahu and the Palestinians are going to Moscow for the next round of peace talks..

What the hell is wrong with Democrats? Israel is a MAJOR ally in the mideast.
Yes they get too much money, and have too much influence thru AIPAC -but not to mention them as they are pariah for progressives?

Putin has got to be ROFL @ the US elctions

missing the point.the ME is about more then oil. How are you going to become energy dependent if we can't use carbon fuels?
Since Saudi Arabia discovered an ocean of oil underground, the M.E has been about nothing but oil.

We produce enough carbon fuel to use at home. Corporations just opt to sell it on the open market for top dollar. Wanna know how we become energy independent w/respect to carbon fuel? Let the Feds pump oil on Fed lands, and give the private sector competition.

BB has poisoned US/Israel relationships by going beyond Israel's right to sovereignty and crossed a line by crossing the partisan political divide and playing partisan politics to gain support of the far right extremist in the US for his expansion of settlements into Palestinian territory knowing that the morons in the U.S. far right will rubber stamp anything Israel does based on end times theology.

It's utterly reprehensible of BB to do so and if Israel as a nation suffers the consequences of BB's reprehensible actions then tough shit. That's the penalty for Israel when it involves itself in U.S. domestic politics which are none of fucking Israel's business.

'Israel is a MAJOR ally in the mideast.'

'Israel' is a major pensioner and a certain cause for all Arabs (and most educated people) to grow less and less enamoured of the United States for backing these child-killing racists - as you must know.

Do you think Iran should go ahead and nuke them?

Most politicians know this. Whereas corporations have lobbyists, Israel has a huge contingent of Jewish voters in this country. Many are smart enough to see the truth about Israel's actions, but in the end, it comes down to Israel's 'right to exist'.

As such, the issues get conflated, and politicians simply support Israel in public in order to garner the votes.

Perfect example is Chuck Schumer in NY. His base has a strong Jewish contingent. As such, he railed against the Iran deal in public, but worked behind the scenes to get Dems. to support it.

Iolo sure loves to call the Jews Nazi's. Interesting that he and some Trump voters share the same disdain for Jews. Interesting what people have in common

What would you do if your country were occupied by Nazis who murdered your children?

Well, Nazis did occupy it at one time. One of their problems was they had trouble telling the difference between Jewish and Muslim men. You didn't want to be a Jew at the time.

There's plenty history regarding the cozy relationship between Muslims and the Reich.

There's a much closer relationship, however, between Hitler and those who modelled their whole philosophy on his racist beliefs, including his definition of Jews, namely the sionists. To have watched millions of those to whom they claimed relationship die and learn only to kill is quite something
