My parents have had a place in Floriduh for 35 years. The first time I visited, my Dad said "Never swim in fresh water in Floriduh. Never." Parents today are dumb.

No your dad was dumb, I grew up swimming and waterskiing and boating and even alligator catching in Florida freshwater.

groundwater is just below the surface most of the time.
There are limestone aquifiers too
