"Discriminate" & "discern" are not synonyms, but have overlapping definitions.

We ALREADY make "racial *" distinctions. If we're not going to abandon that practice entirely, is there a rational logical justification for not getting it right?

* It's one race people! It's called "the human race"! We can all interbreed.
 
Race has become such a dirty, confusing, word. I like to think of us as just Human Beings. It's cleaner, and totally unpolitical.

That's clearly the ideal.

The problem is, within our population, dark-skinned minorities are still discriminated against in some locations.

OBVIOUSLY discrimination is bad.

BUT !!

"Affirmative action" is discrimination!

And yet, without anti-discrimination statutes like Title 9, would genuine equality under law be as much of a reality as it would otherwise have been without such efforts as Title 9 ?

In medicine, the doctor can't cure the patient without first diagnosing the disease.
In civil rights improvement, how can the society attack "racial" discrimination if it doesn't first acknowledge it?

It's also more scientific and biblical.

Race is a useless designation biologically. But just like the current fad with inventing gender designations, inventing a new race has a political point.

There's a difference between the fact of the race, and the socio-political recognition of it. Obama isn't creating a new race. He's reportedly advocating formally recognizing a distinction that already exists.

I'm neither endorsing nor condemning Obama's objective. But at least I think we should be candid about the reality of it.

I don't know about the tin foil stuff, but it would have been nice to have stopped Obama at one term.

You prove my point. You could conjure up a 'race' for any physical distinction: your imagination is the only limit. You can make a race out of red heads and it would be just as scientifically valid as Caucasian or whatever.

The left is irredeemably race-obsessed and gender-obsessed. Maybe someone should inform them their obsessions are scientifically meaningless lol. Look at all the absurd gender categories they dreamt up just so they can have some more 'victims' to rescue in their absurd social justice crusade.

The new "racial" category has as much scientific basis as your feeble attempt with your bogus poll on the other thread. It's an attempt to give it a separate political designation for demographic and other political purpose. Nothing to do with science at all.
