Merkel wields power disproportionate to her authority. Merkel leads unified Germany, not the E.U.
And yet ...
That's a matter of opinion.
Germany is still making amends for WWII.
And one of the ways Germany can do so is to help absorb the flood of humanity gushing from the War-torn Middle East.
Mislabel that "screwed up so badly with Syrian refugees" if you like.
But reality is more complicated. And in decades to come, Merkel may be considered brilliant for it.
In any case, it's not too difficult to imagine a friendship between President Clinton & Angela Merkel the equal of Reagan / Thatcher.
If she is still "making up for WWII" she is living in the past.
Putting your society at risk ( and not even talking ISIS infiltration) and the loss of national character is 1 big reason for the BREXIT vote.
Her popularity has plunged dramatically after the August terrorist attacks, with almost two-thirds of Germans unhappy with her refugee policy.
It does show that criticism of Clinton is valid as a globalist.

Especially in Germany, with its history. If you believe that, then it makes perfect sense to allow hoards of immigrants into your country that don't share in your cultural values.
