Debate Thread

Let me try this a different way. For decades us right wingers have been told we need to temper our conservatism. We need to get behind people that are more to YOUR liking like Romney and McCain. Where did that get us? Electoral defeat and watered down conservatism. We have stood by and watched the country deteriorate while people are afraid to fight and play for keeps. You fail to realize that the other side does. They do not want to get along with you. They do not want to compromise with you. Trump was born of 20 years of conservative frustration due to milquetoast republicans of which I believe you are emblematic. I don't mean it to be personal.

I don't take it personal. I've always been more on the economic libertarian side of the Republican Party. There are others who are much more into the culture wars. When it comes to voting like I said in the other thread by the time I vote every election the choice has already been made (on the Presidential level) whether in the primary or the general.

The last two elections we heard the Republican Party needed to run a real conservative. We did that this election in Cruz and he won as much as Huckabee
in '12. I question, at least economically, how conservative the Republican Party really is. It's really more about the cultural conservatism. In some areas I definitely am culturally conservative and in other areas probably not as much as others.

Reagan invited them......... Now they have taken over much of the party by usurping the movement.... & now you got trumpf.......>>:rofl2: well that isn't really funny, it is really sad actually.....

Although he panders to both, he is of neither faction......... The more traditional (non-social issue) republicans want no part of him while the social/so called "religious" have found rational to support the casino owner..

IMHO cruz is not a real conservitive as he is all about the social issues and you know it....... Goldwater would have backhanded that MF Canadian to the floor, & rightly so..

Social issues are a major part of every traditional conservative, and always have been. We have supported a mixed bag of issues such as traditional marriage (the charter platform of the GOP called for abolishing polygamy), abolition, temperance, blue laws, and in recent years, pro-life. You must live on another planet to not know this.

Where traditionalists most strongly disagree with neocons, for example, is on interventionism and foreign policy, although they trended more hawkish in response to Marxism during the Cold War. Cruz appeals now, as he would have decades ago, for being a strong advocate of strict constructionism, which is one of his primary causes. Goldwater was a clown who embarrassed himself when he joked about lobbing a few nukes at the enemy, or sawing the eastern seaboard off from the US. People saw Reagan as his heir, but I think he had more in common with Douchebag Donald.

Cruz dared to mention the gold standard, eliminating corporate subsidies and supported free trade. That's pretty darn conservative

Remember when libtards told us, 'if only you had a candidate with conservative economic principles and liberal socail principles, we could support him'? I knew they were lying.

I have not been here that long but I have never heard any "liberal" anywhere say that...... Will you be providing a quote/link??

I don't think Trump's economic populism counts as economic conservatism. When Trump is courting the voters of a socialist saying we share the same views on trade that is not economic conservatism to me.

What would you call his "economic populism"??

Usf is such a moron he doesn't realize those fake earbud pictures were not from the Clinton-Trump debate.

You're full of shit, you disingenuous bitch.

I mentioned it the night of the debate and for your info, the debate was live.

I know, I know; you have a duty to protect the "V". :palm:

Cutting taxes to grow the economy is exactly what Reagan did...
