U.S. Halts Construction On Oil Pipeline In North Dakota After Protests

being Buddhist I plan on cremation.
The point is there is no process if all process can get suspended over protests ,and fed'l judges orders .
Why do you even talk to the nasty twat? Do you miss Rune that much?

still missing the point..
I'm no fan of Keystone. I'm not all that familiar with this one - except for the oil railway cars that periodically derail.
Oil is nasty business

Still if it's fast tracked -then fast track it..
It's the dithering uncertainty that kept Keystone going for 10 years, and then over-ruled by the executive that makes up into a nation of lilliputians
This pipeline was fast tracked to go through indigenous land, after it was moved from its previous plan because the locals didn't like the aspect of their water supply being in danger.

I believe it is you that is missing the point. Oil lobbyists get these projects fast tracked, and you complain when someone finally wants to fully examine all aspects? Same goes for Keystone. There was never going to be any benefit for this country. Good thing Saudi Arabia put the kabosh on our fracked oil industry.

Not one company in the Mid West gives a flying fuck about this country. All of their oil gets sold on the open market for maximum profit.

Fuck them.

then don't fast track them. I defer to your knowledge of the blow by blows how this happens.
It's not something I pay attention step by step. But I am looking at the process and it's a joke. it's broken.

I suppose it much like our government - unable to move/advance by obstructionism ,and partisanship.

I've seen this happen 2x now on MAJOR projects, and it's become a running joke how we cannot get anything done -
even with a federal judge clearing the legal hurdles. It's why I called us a bunch of lilliputians . This is not how great powers run their economies

So you admit you know next to nothing about the issue, but feel entitled to bloviate about it?
I'm looking at it from the OUTSIDE - not that interested from the INSIDE- and critiquing the PROCESS which is FUBAR -no matter how you look at it.

Honestly? I hadn't been following it either. It took me 5 minutes to find a couple of articles on the topic. One I posted a link to. It's from when the indigenous first began their protest, as the pipeline was moved into their lap after people complained about it being built 10 miles north.

National Benefits
Increased domestic crude oil production translates into greater energy independence for the United States.
Although the United States is the third-largest producer in the world, we are the number one consumer of crude oil in the world. We need to close the gap between what we produce as a country and what we consume before we can be truly independent of foreign imports. While the U.S. produced 7.5 million barrels of crude oil per day in 2013, it still imported 7.7 million barrels per day in order to meet consumer demands. We need to close the gap between what we produce as a country and what we consume before we can be truly independent of foreign imports. Every barrel of oil produced in the United States directly displaces a barrel of foreign oil.
The North Dakota Bakken has witnessed a significant increase in the production of crude oil, from 309,000 barrels a day in 2010 to 1 million barrels a day in 2014. This energy will need reliable transportation networks to reach U.S. markets, and pipelines are the safest, most efficient means of accomplishing this task.
Local Economic Impact
The Dakota Access Pipeline is a $3.7 billion investment that will create 8,000 to 12,000 local jobs during construction. Millions of hours of labor will be needed during the construction phase, putting welders, mechanics, electricians, pipefitters, heavy equipment operators and others within the heavy construction industry to work. There will also be increased demand for those who manufacture the steel pipes, fittings, valves, pumps and control devices necessary for a major pipeline, and local economies along the route will feel direct impact through the expanded use of hotels, motels, restaurants, and other services.

  • The pipeline will translate into millions in state and local revenues during the construction phase and an estimated $129 million annually in property and income taxes.
  • The pipeline will generate an estimated $50 million annually in property taxes and nearly $74 million in sales taxes to the states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Illinois – for services to support schools, roads, emergency services and more.
The project will also address transportation strains in the Upper Midwest created by the dramatic increase in crude oil production in North Dakota. A lack of rail cars to move grain out of South Dakota has magnified the problem. Tariffs on grain railcars have increased from $50 to nearly $1,400 per car. These cost increases can carve up to $1.00 from every bushel of corn shipped. The Bakken Pipeline will help ease transportation shortages for agriculture and other industries.

cool beans. normally I would have done some due dilligence -and props to you for doing so - except I've been busy screwing around here,
and watching the Orioles blow it with their typical late season fade. And work and stuff...

anyways.. do you see how fucked up a nation we are when we have these big interstate projects and they constantly get de-railed?
There needs to be a process, and it needs to be followed -else everything is just ephemeral. It's no way to run infrastructure

A federal appeals court has ordered a halt to construction of the Dakota Access oil pipeline in North Dakota.

A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit said in a ruling late Friday that it needs more time to consider the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe's request for an emergency injunction.

The ruling stops construction within 20 miles on either side of Lake Oahe. The federal government on Sept. 9 ordered a halt to construction on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers land under and around the lake.

Trail of Crybabies

odd they waited over a hundred years to buy the land their ancestors graves were on.......oh wait, they never tried to buy it......
Prehistorically, those sore losers escaped into this continent as criminal fugitives from Siberia. They are allowed to stay in the United States on parole. If they keep pushing the doormat idea that we should surrender to their reconquest, which may be possible with traitors like Obama in power, patriots should send them back to Siberia where they belong. Putin will know how to handle them.
