Iraq mistake!

Hindsight is 20/20. The Iraq war was a failure because Iraqi's embraced AQII and not democracy. Rather fight sectarian wars and settle old scores.

If they united, formed a coalition democratic govt, kicked AQ's butt, sold us cheap oil in return, and became a strong ally in the region, you'd be singing a different tune.
Much of the subsequent chaos was due the disbanding of the army and the marginalising of the Sunnis. That can squarely be blamed on Bush et al. Obama's decision to semaphore his intentions to pull out did the rest.

Clinton learned nothing from any of this. She hasn't met a ME war she didn't want to join.
Now this talk about no boots in Iraq.. She still supports a No Fly in Syria -but so does Trump.

What does all experience get her?

if it was just about retarding AQ..sure..but we got involved in a civil war.
Then we had to nationbuild..at what point do we pull out? If we do right now the Afghan government will fall.
If we wait till laterthe Afghan gov't willfall.

As much as we want to see Afghan stabilize..it's only held together with US air combat roles

This is the problem with Libs/libertarians. Their solution is always, Do Nothing, go back to isolationism, and let the 2nd holocaust happen. Just isn't going to work in today's ever connected world.

I was 100% right on Iraq. You were as wrong as you could be. And now you're voting for someone who agreed w/ me (or so he says).

So, I'll take that w/ a grain of salt.

Yes and your queen Shillary voted for the war. Trump was opposed from the start and still is. How does that make you feel? Is your head exploding libtard?

Fine then pull out and watch IS move in. It will be a damn sight more difficult to get rid of them than in Syria/Iraq.

Hillary's vote is the reason I'm not voting for her. Trump was for the war, before he opposed it, before he was for it again & all before he ran a Presidential campaign saying he opposed it.

Not sure how you wrap your head around that.

I'm not saying do nothing. I am saying be damn careful where you get sucked in -and you better have a plan to get out.
The more ambitious your plan , the more likely you'll stay sucked in.

In Libya is was truly bad policy all the way around, built on lies and arrogance of using "smart power"-
which is just interventionism on the cheap..Bombing our way to regime change.
This when Qadaffi was an ally on the war on terror too.

Syria it was "friends of Syria" - destabilizing Assad, and not understanding the consequences

Libya was a complete disaster on all levels. We took what was essentially an ally dicator, turned on him, and created another destabilized zone for terrorism to grow. Of course the media ignores it and sweeps it under the rug.

The Top Ten Myths in the War Against Libya

In a startling declaration to the UN Security Council, U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice also asserted that Gaddafi was supplying his troops with Viagra to encourage mass rape. She offered no evidence whatsoever to back up her claim. Indeed, U.S. military and intelligence sources flatly contradicted Rice, telling NBC News that “there is no evidence that Libyan military forces are being given Viagra and engaging in systematic rape against women in rebel areas”. Rice is a liberal interventionist who was one of those to persuade Obama to intervene in Libya. She utilized this myth because it helped her make the case at the UN that there was no “moral equivalence” between Gaddafi’s human rights abuses and those of the insurgents.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also declared that “Gadhafi’s security forces and other groups in the region are trying to divide the people by using violence against women and rape as tools of war, and the United States condemns this in the strongest possible terms”. She added that she was “deeply concerned” by these reports of “wide-scale rape”. (She has, thus far, said nothing at all about the rebels’ racist lynchings.)

By June 10, Cherif Bassiouni, who is leading a UN rights inquiry into the situation in Libya, suggested that the Viagra and mass rape claim was part of a “massive hysteria”.

Trump has learned nothing, now he wants to go back in and get the oil after killing their families.

This is one of the reasons I love politics, if I wait long enough almost everyone eventually agrees with me.

2003-2007 the most hotly debated issue in this board or its predecessor was the Iraq war. I was one of the very few against the war, and I was called all kinds of names for it, including unpatirotic. I was told I did not support the troops and did not love America.

Flash forward to today, at a forum on national security, with an audience made up entirely of Military Vet's, BOTH Republican and Democratic presidential canididates tried to one up each other about what a big mistake invading Iraq was. Clinton apoligizing for her mistake and Trump lying about his position.

I am almost always right, it just takes the rest of the world a few years to catch up sometimes.
You r a wee todd

I remember back then I was on the biggest demo in British History, countless people marching against the war. It was then that we learned what it was like to live in an American puppet state, as Bliar ignored us and brown-nosed the execrable Bush, backing his war-crimes.

I was on board with the war at the time, although I was still young. But 9/11 left Americans wanting revenge. And A-Stan, lets face it, just wasn't cutting it. Bombing caves? Come on.

More action needed to happen. What IF we didn't take out Saddam. Say he is still the dictator today. ANd he develops nuclear weapons to combat Iran's nuclear weapons. Now we have 2 nuclear armed enemies in the ME. IS that better or worse than today?

"If" never happens. You don't have a damn clue the "if" with Saddam still in power.

No combat boots? I'm not sure what it gets her. What it gets our combat troops is life rather than a meaningless death

it's not a good idea to take anything off the table.
although with her record of warmongering ( Iraq/Syria/Libya) it's understandable from a political reasoning POV why she does so.

Ever notice, how republicans never own up or admit their mistakes?

She also went on 5 different News networks and lied about Benghazi. She faced zero action too. Pathetic admin.
