White House officials expect sharp words and the occasional elbow when an American president travels to China. But the reception that Obama got when he arrived Saturday afternoon was bruising, even by Chinese standards.

When Air Force One rolled to a stop, there was no staircase for Obama to disembark. Instead, he emerged from a rarely used door in the belly of the plane.

The reporters who normally cover the president’s movements were kept behind a rope, where they could not see him, prompting an angry exchange between a security official and White House aides.

When Susan Rice, the national security adviser, ducked under the rope, she was immediately stopped by a Chinese official, who heatedly challenged her. Asked later by a reporter what had happened, a diplomatic Ms. Rice said, “They did things that weren’t anticipated.”

The surprises continued at the West Lake State House, where Obama met President Xi Jinping. White House aides, protocol officers and Secret Service agents were stopped at a security checkpoint. A shouting match, in Chinese, broke out over how many Americans should be allowed into the building before Obama’s arrival, and whether their names were on the proper lists.

As the words escalated, there were fears that a fight might erupt. “Calm down, please,” a White House official said.

“The president is arriving here in an hour,” a member of the White House staff said in frustration.

Michelle Obama will be a no show when her husband attends the China-U.S. Summit in California this weekend, a slap in the face to the Chinese First Lady Peng Liyuan.

The stylish wife of China's premier had hoped to share the spotlight with Michelle Obama but she has opted to stay in D.C. to spend time with her two daughters.

President Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping are heading to the "Camp David of the West" in Rancho Mirage, Calif., for meetings June 7 and 8.

The First Lady's decision to remain at home was expected to "not go down very well" with her Chinese counterpart, one Chinese diplomacy expert said.

"According to normal diplomatic etiquette, this is very strange. It shouldn't be like this," Zhang Ming, a political scientist from China's Renmin University, told the UK's Daily Telegraph.

"First Lady diplomacy is also very important, and the U.S. side has failed to cooperate," he added.

Michelle Obama's office revealed Tuesday that she would not be joining her husband at Sunnylands, the Annenberg estate near Palm Springs that will provide the picturesque setting for the political talks.

you realize trump will have more checks on his power than any other president in history while hillary will most likely have the least?
Clinton is already making noises with Executive Orders when she doesn't get her way.

I'm tired of post-Constitutional rule myself..it's damaging in so many ways

yeah but both of them will use EO's

Im talking about institutionally.

Trump has both the establishment dems and repubs gunning for him as well as the media. The only way he gets anything done is via the bully pulpit so he has to keep public support throughout his presidency.

CLinton alreedy demonstrated she can break the democrat protesters with what she did with bernie. Media is already in her pocket with some even submitting articles to the DNC before printing. Yes republicans will still be against her but that will just be normal. She will rule like obama but with the deep rooted influence and corruption that obama wasnt able to acquire yet.

Do you have anything to support that??

Even if so, will that be enough??

Once in power it is very difficult to get rid of someone in that high office.. Not like a real dumbocracy where a no confidence vote can perhaps get things back on track..

When did we have constitutional rule??
it keeps slipping away..I thought Bush/Cheney was bad ( UNITARY POTUS)..then along came "I have a pen and a phone" Obama.

Oddly Bill Clinton was at least somewhat able to work an agenda. He had to compromise *oh the horrors!*
but he at least wasn't a threat to federalism
