Phoenix speech

Where in that frame work is the money for a wall??

Well, first, the legislature has already shown a willingness to build and pay for a wall. But I digress, I believe it's been established that there are several ways to raise additional revenue.

$10 per head on 700,000 people going north each day would yield around $2.55 billion per year. Even $5 would yield over a billion!
I would also suggest everybody including US citizens should be charged, that would shut up the race baiters like Leon.

When I see, and I get this question all the time, how many times have - let me start by saying there's a lot of people out there, who would be furious at me for saying this, absolutely furious, but this country's down the tube folks.

Am I doing it right?

Not down the tubes, but getting close with the idiots we have in Congress and this crazy candidate.

This is well thought out enough to be a Trump proposal.

Do you honestly think there is zero price elasticity in border crossing? Are you going to charge this on freight trucks? Any thoughts about how this might slow down the lines, how much extra labor will be required to administer and how much will be lost due to those who decide to forego the crossing?

If they can't come up with 10 bucks to cross the border what are they going to buy when they get here?

That's such a gov't mindset though. If you're goal is to prevent visitors into country then charging to come here is a good thing. If you want people to come here and spend money then it's not.

You did not address all the points.

Some will stop coming. Do you honestly deny that? Some of those who will stop coming would have spent some amount of money here. Do you honestly deny that? If you do then we can just write you off as a partisan hack with no foresight or knowledge of economics.

They don't necessarily have to buy things to produce economic benefits.

You could say much the same about bridge, tunnel and ferry crossings that charge tolls. Do you really think that people are so cheap that they'd swim the Rio Grande to avoid paying five dollars? Trucks that do the crossing regularly would just have electronic passes on their windscreens, they do that already in many parts of the world. The same applies to people that cross the border regularly, I suspect you just love to see problems where none exist. They could also use some of the money to build more crossings and pay for more staff to man the posts.

So, it puts a dent in legal border crossings. You act as though it would be the end of the world as we know it lol.

Why don't you prove you're not a partisan hack and admit it would bring in some revenue.
