OUCH!!!!:mad: Sports here is truly the whine of the masses...lol

It must be similar to how it was in Ancient Rome... Billionaire owners get stadiums/coliseum etc built for them/their team & they can leave when it suits them for a better deal somewhere else..

Most Americans know far more about their teams than they do their politics or leaders.............

I use to just post on sports boards which are not a lot different than political boards..

Many ppl, mostly men, should know more about other things than just their teams............

Many abhor politics, some seem like idiots when discussing it & yet can dazzle you w/ stats, players & histories of their teams...........

Oh lord don't I know it. I was raised to not discuss politics and religion in mixed company and with the regional divide we had between Protestants and Catholics that was sound advice but where I'm from in Sports mad west Ohio people get just plain nasty when they talk sports.

You bring up an interesting point. Most Americans are patriotic and quite a few are nationalist but the vast majority of Americans identify more with their home States than their country...which we pretty much take for granted but visitors to our country have a hard time getting their head around that.
 
I suppose the only thing to be said for baseball is that it isn't cricket - and vice versa! Shame about the sister - some parents, eh! Snooker and its modern variants are the only game for a growing boy (girls have better things to do), and why anyone should play anything but rugby later escapes me. As for soccer, it is just ballet, but less exciting.

i never understood football but after reading eyeshield 21 i can say it is the best sport. Rugby sux.
