Trump's conversation on race

Darth Omar

Russian asset
Enter Trump, who is suddenly calling out the Democratic Party for basically keeping black America on this modern version of the plantation. He seems like the oddest messenger for this, but is he? The accusations of racism toward Donald have always seemed hollow and disingenuous, a political gambit aimed at goading the famously thin-skinned businessman (who may finally be learning not to fall for it—we will see). In reality, however, Trump has been a businessman who puts people, lots of people of all races, to work.

But no matter how you feel about Trump (the messenger), his message is one hundred and fifty percent correct. By calling out the Democratic Party’s decades-old plantation politics he has opened up a true dialogue on race, rather than the phony, self-promoting one sought by the left, and called to question the whole sleazy exploitation game behind identity politics.

And he is already seeing a bump in the polls for this long-awaited dose of honesty. If he keeps it up, and takes this message directly to African-American (and yes, Hispanic) communities, not only will he gain a number of their votes, he will most probably win the presidency and be the one who finally puts America’s racist past behind her.

Irony of ironies? Irony squared!

Trump needs to stay on that message.

blacks aren't going to listen. they are too locked into the Dems.
States like Md. and cities like Baltimore are institutionally Democratic.

Still it's a good thing -a good discussion to try to get people to think past reflexive thought

Darth, I think you know how I feel about your spin when it comes to Trump.

But even mentioning the mere IDEA that Trump - TRUMP - is the one man who will finally put "America's racist past behind her" is so utterly outrageous. TRUMP.

I don't think there is too much out there that is more patronizing than his "what do you have to lose" ploy. He talks about all blacks like they're dirt poor & besieged by crime. It's embarrassing, as usual.

You have it backwards. The patronizing thing is 'vote democrat if you know what's good for you'. Trump is just pointing it out.

The 'spin' as you call it, isn't mine but of the OP writer, Roger L. Simon [yes, that one, he's a playwright and former liberal] and I agree with it: blacks have been sold a bill of goods by the democrats since LBJ.

If you're a poor unemployed black, what the hell do you have to lose?

And reflexive it is. Republican=bad. Democrat=good.

And I think Trump should continue to hammer on it. Obviously, not all blacks will listen, but Trump doesn't need all of them.

There's a reason Trump's at one percent among blacks. If he wanted to make his case to the black community go to the black community early in the campaign and make it. He can't wait until now and make it at a rally of all white people.

I actually don't disagree with that.

Especially the taking it directly to the black crowd part. I'll be disappointed if he doesn't do it.
