Britain could leave the European Union towards the end of 2019, instead of as expected, reported the Sunday Times citing sources who have been briefed by ministers that Brexit departments were not ready.
One City source told the newspaper that their new Whitehall departments are ‘chaotic’ as they are being built from scratch. Brexit secretary David Davis and international trade secretary Liam Fox suggested that they expected the UK would leave the EU at the start of 2019. But it seems the pair are understaffed as Davis has only recruited less than half of the workers he needs. Meanwhile, Fox has less than 100 trade policy experts – far short of the figure of 1,000 he is looking to bring on board.
