Less government regulation in action

Capitalist tool Cawacko is trying to divert attention from the disastrous consequences of laissez-faire regulation, Comrade Cat!

Let us resist his trollish attempt to hijack the thread!

Even as amusement rides are getting more terrifying and death-defying by the year, the amusement park industry actively fights attempts at increased regulation. According to the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, surveys reveal that 4 out of 5 of its member organizations say they view “state regulation as the biggest threat to their businesses.”

Regulation of the industry has historically been lax. This changed in 1973, when the newly established Consumer Product Safety Commission assumed authority over the nation’s amusement parks. Amusement park owners chafed against federal oversight. In 1981, Congress passed legislation rescinding the CPSC’s authority over “permanent” rides, only allowing them to monitor temporary rides of the sort featured at pop-up carnivals and fairs.

This is known in the trade as the “roller-coaster loophole.” It leaves the amusement park industry, for the most part, only beholden to a less-than-adequate mishmosh of state laws. According to the New York Daily News, about half the states “require regular inspections from a government agency and allow the state governments to investigate accidents” at amusement parks.

Kansas, it will surprise no one to find out, isn’t exactly tough on theme parks. In an interview with USA Today in 2014, in fact, the Verruckt’s designer specifically cited the state’s lack of regulation regarding the height of rides as one reason the amusement park operator decided to place the world’s tallest water slide there. As for inspections, the state only requires an annual exam, one that is conducted privately and that the park doesn’t need to share with state authorities. There are no surprise spot checks.

This is the system that cruel Cawacko wishes to expand - the safety of America's children means nothing to him!

He and all de-regulators are money worshiping savages.

He and all de-regulators are money worshiping savages.

They are willing to behead the sons of Republican legislators to slake their lust for blood money.

This is certainly not a problem unique to Kansas. Six states have no amusement park regulations on the books at all. Moreover, the New York Daily News pointed out that Florida doesn’t require its most popular amusement parks—Disney World, Universal Studios, and Busch Gardens—to submit to accident investigations.

One result? We have no idea how many Americans are injured annually at the nation’s amusement parks. Unless there is a horrifying accident like what happened in Kansas City on Sunday, we’re highly unlikely to hear about it.

Next thing you know children will be devoured by alligators at Disney properties due to a money saving lack of safety oversight.
Oh wait!

Headless children mean freedom to capitalist tools like Cawacko.

No one should be put in a position of risking their life just because they want to take a ride on a water slide on a hot, summer day. Even if it’s a ride that’s advertised as offering the “ultimate in water slide thrills.”

It’s shameful that state and federal regulators haven’t stepped in more forcefully to ensure that rides are safe.

In fact, the lack of regulation of roller coasters, merry-go-rounds, water slides, and other amusement park attractions might be the one thing more insane than the Verruckt.

Your straw man Cwackjob. All I did was shoot it down.
No one here has ever said that liberals can't be racists. That is your pure invention.
You are a liar as well as a money worshiping savage.

LOL. Yeah, capitalists are savaged. Only if I could be a compassionate caring socialist such as yourself.

Capitalism has brought more people out of poverty than any other economic system. Quite clearly that angers you. I'm sorry.

What are a few headless children compared to the profits that unregulated free markets bring?

The sudden death of a 10-year-old Kansas boy -- on what's believed to be the world's tallest water slide -- is stirring questions about whether amusement and water parks should once again be regulated by the government.

Caleb Schwab died at Kansas City's Schlitterbahn Water Park on Sunday as he rode the Verrückt slide -- which carries riders nearly 170 feet off the ground at its highest point. German for "insane," the Verrückt is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the tallest water slide on Earth.

The boy was the son of Kansas state Rep. Scott Schwab.

Because the parks are not regulated, they are free to operate and inspect rides as they see fit. The Kansas City park said it has a regular daily inspection routine. The only government mandate in Kansas, for example, is that parks have their rides inspected once a year.

"In many respects, we are trusting that the host of a business -- whether it's an amusement park or water park or a traveling facility -- to provide rides that someone is looking out for our safety," National Safety Council President Deborah Hersman told NBC News. "The challenge is that we don't always know what that is and what the oversight is."

Nothing wrong with capitalism. If you are looking for an anti-capitalist you can keep looking Cwackjob.
However, unregulated Capitalism is like the best made car in the world with no speed limits, brakes, air bag or seat belt.
You entirely miss the point as most greed blinded savages do.
Balance is the key.

Cwackjob would gleefully sacrifice children's lives on the altar of profit.

The motivations that make capitalism work so well (greed) is the most dangerous part of the equation.
Left unchecked and unregulated greed can be the downfall of humanity as history has clearly shown.
Kept in check and properly regulated capitalism can lift humanity to its greatest potential.
People do not have to die for a corporation to make a profit.

Like I said nice straw man. No one is arguing for no regulations.

It's been pointed out that Kansas requires no government regulation of amusement park rides except an annual "private inspection".

We've regulated our economy into one of the worst economic recoveries we've had. The Paul Krugman answer??? More regulation!

Yet you call for less regulation.

What a crock of bullshit. It's you anti-Keynesian supply siders and your obstructionism that's responsible for the anemic recovery from the economic recession that was caused by deregulation, lack of enforcement and lassiez faire policy that caused the economic collapse. The 2008 recession was prevented from becoming a depression by the time tested and proven method of Keyensian stimulus spending over bitter opposition by right wing supply siders and their fails policies that have never proven any of their predictions. In fact it was their limiting the size of the stimulus and opposition to more stimulus spending responsible for the slow rate of recovery.

In fact most mainstream economists agree on that and will point out that the Europeans austerity measure are the reason why much of Europe still hasn't recovered from the recession and that Keyensian policy is the main reason why our economic recovery has been more robust.

So lay that nonsense on some one else.

Well said Mott.

This is the insight I've been missing? This is awesome. In this circle I guess the FDA keeping life altering/saving drugs from patients in the name of regulation are "ok" deaths because regulation is the highest God right?
You're in over your head there. You fail to mention how many lives they save by keeping drugs that have not been adequately tested from entering the market. Ever seen a thalidomide baby?
