I agree with the statement, though I try and place myself in their shoes, its quite hard. I also can't fully understand what is going through a cop's mind. I just don't have the experiences to really help me fully understand it.
Closest experience I have was being pulled over for driving at night with 3 other people. A cop tailed me for 20 miles on the freeway before he pulled me over and said I 'was swerving'. I didn't have a drink at all and I was fine, I also know I didn't cross the yellow lines because I knew he was tailing me and paid extra close attention to anything he could pull me over for. He claimed I crossed the yellow lines though and that's why he pulled me over. In actuality, he tailed me for 20 miles and had nothing to go on, but wanted to check me out anyways. In the end, I stayed respectful but there were multiple times he became a little testy. Almost seemed as if he was trying to bait me into an argument. In the end, he said 'Maybe you were just tired, but be safe. I'll let you go with a warning.'
I often wonder what would have happened if I wasn't a white man in that situation, and in all honesty I don't think the results would have been similar.
