I suspect that conservatives are incapable of feeling shame.
When evidence that might cause embarrassment in a normal person is encountered, a conservative seems to have an innate mechanism in place to protect themselves.
For instance, look at Right's inability to admit that he was conned by a fake photo of Hillary.
He knows that linking to it is impossible because there was no data backup for 18 month's worth of posts when the forum crashed, so he pretends that he never said that Hillary had a Confederate flag in her office "back when it was fashionable", even though there are plenty of people who saw the post and his subsequent doubling down.
