Why the butthurt over brexit? :)

What's wrong with nationalism?

Depends on what you mean by it. It can mean an extreme form of nationalism such as espoused by the Nazis. Or it can mean something as simple as advocating secure borders and trade and economic policy that favors your own nation instead of global interests.

The Brexit vote was for a return to the latter form of nationalism.

so i see a lot of bitter democrats here today very butthurt about brexit im wondering why?

Im happy about it because i think it is a victory for nationalism and improves trumps chances.

You dont believe that as well do you?

It is actually a victory for internationalism. The UK has shamefully neglected the Commonwealth in the last few decades, this is an ideal chance to re-engage with them and boost trade and cultural ties.

I think it's hilarious that all of a sudden the country responsible for the most colonization (more like invasion) of parts of the world, wants to"protect its borders".

Nationalism has proven time & again in history to be a counter-productive philosophy - and more often than not, disastrous.

I feel like a lot of working people got hurt w/ this vote. So that's why I'm "butthurt." And I thought the latter expression was officially retired from internet jargon years ago, but if you're a nationalist, you're probably into nostalgia.

yes

right wing economic ideas fail

give them up

For starters, I'm not a supply-sider.

Next, the left-wing spends too much, which is why we have crippling debt.

Neither side has any kind of monopoly on "great economic ideas." The answer, as usual, probably lies somewhere in the middle.

I was hoping you'd drowned. :)

the middle is all we want. Fair trade. Contorlled immigration. Were too far towards globalism already.

Seriously listen to trump and farage. They never once say they will withdraw from the world and be a hermit kingdom like north korea. Its always negotiate more equitable deals.

when I first heard of this, I thought it'd be a fun trolly thing to support, like scotland leaving the UK, even though I didn't really give much of a fuck. But then I saw all the butthurt and saltiness, and I had to evaluate. If it is causing this much pain among the liberals here, it must have been a REALLY good thing! Then I realized it was a victory for autonomy and self determination and the UK was getting it's balls back and saying no to globalist shills. THEN i learned about farage and how AWESOME he is and I learned that you cannot barrage the farage.

It clouds objectivity. When pushed to extremes, it leads to arrogance of power and feelings of superiority. It often appeals to our most fearful and negative instincts.

You say this as if it isn't true. Guess what? the U.S. is superior to many nations. We are superior to somalia. That is an objective fact. Our country, culture, and way of life is superior to many countries around the globe. I know as a liberal you believe everyone should get a participation medal but at the end of the day, we are the best, and I love being the best and I feel no shame for saying so.

I didn't really want to see Scotland separate from Great Britain, although, I would have trolled over it for fun. I do want to see Irish Unification, but, that's just a personal thing. The minute I heard of Brexit, I was on board. I always root against the EU (specifically Doucheland), and have always favoured the UK over the Continent because it basically represents my cultural heritage, even though I am Czech, Kraut, Slovene (who came from Greece), and Irish.

Man you are a serious mongrel!! Nichola Sturgeon was on the BBC just now, she has changed her tune. The EU have made it clear that they won't be able to just waltz in, but they will need to renegotiate. That could take years!!

It will be interesting to see (and not even counting what countries such as Holland decide to do in the months to come) whether the likes of Hollande or Merkel prevail when it comes to handling the situation.
