EU referendum: Moody's cut UK's credit outlook to 'negative'

The UK has had its credit rating outlook downgraded to "negative" by the ratings agency Moody's after the country voted to leave the EU.

Moody's said the result would herald "a prolonged period of uncertainty".

Meanwhile, PM David Cameron is under pressure to speed up "divorce" talks with the EU after Brussels said exit negotiations should start immediately.

EU head Jean-Claude Juncker said it was "not an amicable divorce", but it was "not a tight love affair anyway".

Moody's said the referendum result would have "negative implications for the country's medium-term growth outlook", and it lowered the UK's long term issuer and debt ratings to "negative" from "stable".
Tipped favourite

It added: "In Moody's view, the negative effect from lower economic growth will outweigh the fiscal savings from the UK no longer having to contribute to the EU budget."

Maybe the Europeans will stump up some preferential-rate credit for England's border-control upgrades and nuclear weapons program ?

They seem to be living up to their name.

Moonbat appears not to understand the difference between England and the UK Can't say I am that surprised as he just spouts a constant stream of verbal diarrhoea.

He would do well to urge the Palestinians to get their shit together and show the world that they are not just a chaotic rabble. A good start would be to hold some fresh elections, they haven't had any of those in a decade.

If Irish Unification does occur, will the proper term become Great Britain, or will it still be UK? When I was a kid, I was unfamiliar with the term. Then I entered high school, and started hearing UK, and was always a bit surprised by it.

There was a UK on Thursday- now there's an England and Wales.

You're done, old son. Empire is no more;

The Greater Middle East Reacts to British Exit from EU

In general, former British colonies often feel they have a special opportunity for trade and investment with the UK, with which EU commitments sometimes interfered. They now hope to step in to fill the vacuum left by UK departure from the EU.
A senior aide to Iranian president Hassan Rouhani said that Brexit offered Iran “a historic opportunity.” Countries that had been informally colonized by the UK are afraid of European power, and anything that weakens the former is seen as a great good thing.

The UK includes Northern Ireland, if they were to form part of a new state called Ireland then we would become Great Britain. However it is not going to happen any time soon.

Okay, thanks. All this talk about Scotland leaving the Acts of Union, and I figure Irish Unification is much more likely, because it's a desire that existed long before Brexit was ever an issue. All it really requires is for the Protestants to quit fearing the Catholic majority, or for them to become pissed-off at London. Since the Republic is trending much more secular these days, that's certainly a relief to people living in the North.

But, yeah, all of the talk about Scottish independence is just wishful sour grapes. The Scots are much happier complaining about London than they would ever be complaining about Brussels.

Not convinced that Scotland will leave either, they are without doubt the most pampered part of the UK receiving the highest subsidies from central government under the so called Barnett formula. If oil ever goes back to $120 a barrel they have a hope of surviving but not at $50 per barrel. They in fact should be rejoicing as they will at last get their fishing industry back which was decimated by the EU Common Fisheries Policy.

Parasites must expect their hosts to suffer. The English have been sucking on Scotland for centuries.

It's the same way here in the US regarding subsidies to the South.

Under the Barnett Formula, which was introduced back in the 60s for a short time supposedly, Scotland receives far higher subsidies than either Wales or the North of England. If they went independent, it wouldn't be long before they became a northern version of Greece without the temples, healthy diet and warm climate.

Europe poured money into Greece- following its collapse due to the parasites you worship. No such luck for England, old bean.
