I don't know many liberals, except an ancient cousin of mine who is going gaga, and checking their stances is more than I have time for. It would be like trying to explain the fantasies of American rightist weirdoes.

Because liberals make the assumptions that just because they FEEL that if anyone disagrees with someone or something, it has to mean they're afraid of them or it.
It's nothing more then their projection of their own mindset on others.
