Trump fosters suspicion & hatred

"Muslims know who they are, largely. They know who they are. They have to turn them in. They know who they are. They see them."

That's a friggin' bold accusation - that there are people who knew this guy was going to commit the worst mass-shooting in U.S. history, and stayed quiet. Every Muslim becomes a suspect. Every Muslim becomes an accomplice. They're all guilty.

It's all so insidious. For me, it's yet another intelligence test for Americans. Either you've got some sense & understand what's going on here, or you don't, and buy into this BS.
 
I read this great piece just now, but I can't post it because I don't think I have the right to, it hasn't been published publically yet. It's by a great writer and journalist. He is very left, but he's supported Hillary over Bernie the entire primary. His thoughtful explanation for that is what I read. He wrote that Trump is arming a very dangerous bomb, a threat to our country and our democracy, and that as he watched Trump take out one R challenger after the other with this cocktail of dangerous demagoguery and hate, he determined that Hillary was the only candidate on the field with the skills to defuse that bomb. It was very interesting. Not that she was the only candidate who could beat him, but the only candidate who has the skills to defuse the bomb he is attempting to blow up our country with.

I have never witnessed a time in this country so fraught with danger...not personal danger, danger to our very democracy and our way of living. The foundations of our country.

I'm very intrigued by that! Let me know when it gets published. I do think Hillary is ready. The Clintons in general know how to play hardball, and they know how to campaign. I've already been impressed with how Hillary has taken the fight to Trump, but without going down to Trump's level (something his GOP opponents couldn't seem to do).

And I agree on that last line. It sometimes feels like a perfect storm for a guy like Trump. There are certainly years when he would have been laughed off the stage - but we're at that point as a nation where his brand of politics is working, and it's definitely scary. I'm a little obsessed w/ the Nazi comparison. It's not nearly as bad, at least right now, but it's easy for me to imagine what it must have been like for rational Germans when Hitler was gaining power. I'm sure it traveled the same kind of arc from "what a joke this guy is" to "is this really happening?"

This is the only way terrorism ends. They are successful because they can hide in the larger muslim crowd. The "moderate" muslim must hate the extremist so much that they turn them in.

In brussels the bombers neighbors new he was planning something but didnt care enough to report it.

Do you honestly think the "Muslim crowd" knew about the Orlando attack in advance, and didn't do anything?

im talking on a world wide scale not on just a US one (notice I mentioned brussels). If this doesnt hppen we will never stop terror attacks. Even the intelligence arms relies on the moderate hating the extremist so much that they will give info.

You quoted Trump. Today he claimed that Americans who don't "report suspicious neighbors" should be arrested.

That is anti-American. That you little pussies rush to betray our very democracy every time you get a pantload, shows who the real traitors are.

remove muslim from the equation for a bit. Lets replace it with conservative christian. If you knew that your conservative christian friend would be killing some gays in a bar tomorrow would you alert the authorities?

Trump responded to the worst terror attack since 9/11 with a no-holds-barred attack on Muslims and Hillary Clinton that played loose with the facts and was rife with inflammatory rhetoric.

He claimed Clinton wanted to disarm Americans and let Islamic terrorists slaughter them, while overinflating the number of Syrian refugees and insinuating the perpetrator of the Orlando attack was a foreigner.

In a speech pulsating with tough talk that will likely please his supporters, the Republican also renewed his call for a ban on Muslim migration into the United States -- and extended it.

Hinting at a huge expansion of presidential power, he vowed to impose such a system by using executive orders.

Those remarks, however, stopped short of proposing that people be punished for not informing on their neighbors — a hallmark of some of the most brutal and deadly regimes in history, including Nazi Germany and Russia under Joseph Stalin.

The Orlando shooter was a U.S. citizen who was born in the United States in 1986, at a time when the United States and Afghanistan were allies in the fight to contain communism.

Nevertheless, Trump said that the correct response to attacks like the one in Orlando is to ban Muslims from visiting or immigrating (Trump regularly confuses these two ideas) to the United States.
