Omar Mateen

I don't think this mass murder has to do with any religion or political beliefs. Even if he is a devout Muslim and killed these people because he thought his faith compelled him to, it is not about religion. It is about sickness. To those who want to blame Islam, why aren't all Muslims out there shooting up gay night clubs? For those who want to blame guns, why aren't all the gun owners out there shooting people up?

Because, for whatever reason, Islam lends itself to radicalization more than other religions. It's a naked fact that can only be avoided by making vapid appeals to the Crusades, the Klan or etc.

I won't argue that they are sick individuals---you have to be sick or twisted to shoot up innocent people. But they aren't sick in any sense that would be recognized by a psychiatrist; rather, they are compelled to act according to their ideology.

Aka radical Islam. Take guns away and they'll just turn to bombs.

the ALL muslimes don't do it is a logical fallacy and does nothing more than serve as a convenient excuse.

You seem to be saying you would feel better about it if 1 billion muslimes attacked us en masse

Why is the Klan a "vapid appeal"?

It was hardly that long ago. In the '60's, domestically, you could have easily said "Christianity lends itself to radicalization more than other religions."

Maybe it's just that extremists tend to hijack religions, whenever & wherever.

Or maybe hacks like to hijack religion.

It is the rise of fundamentalism (sic) as we call it. It's the rise of Salafism - it's an off shoot of SA's Wahhabism -similar but not the same

All Wahhabist are Salafi, but not all Salafi are Wahabbists.

Salafi jihadism
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salafi_jihadism

While Salafism had next to no presence in Europe in the 1980s, by the mid-2000s, Salafist jihadists had acquired "a burgeoning presence in Europe, having attempted more than 30 terrorist attacks among E.U. countries since 2001."[5] While many see the influence and activities of Salafi jihadists as in decline after 2000 (at least in the United States),[11][12] others see the movement as growing in the wake of the Arab Spring and breakdown of state control in Libya and Syria

Nah, radical Islam has historical roots that trace all the way back to Mohammed. In this nations history back to the Barbary Pirates. The Klan was a brief phenomenon by comparison and it was pretty much relegated to the southern US. Radical Islam is global and has a much longer and storied history. There's no comparison, actually.

The Klan *tried* to use Christianity to prop up their white supremacist notions----and failed, miserably. Many argue that Islam is by its nature, supremacist. And their argument isn't easily countered.

Which maybe, has something to do with why Muslims are so easily radicalized compared to Methodists or episcopalians.

I told you it was vapid.

Oh - who is going back to the Crusades era now?

Idiot. Go back before the KKK, and history is rife with Christian violence & terrorism. Do you really want to go there?

No, we can stay right where we're at lol. I'm going to hold your feet to the fire on this. Where was the Klan when this country went to war with Islamists under Thomas Jefferson? Jefferson refused to pay tribute [jizyah in Islam] to the Muslims who believed they were entitled to it under Islam.

Supremacists do that sort of thing.

The idiot Klansman were apparently oblivious to the, fact, that Jesus was a Jew. That's so absurd it's practically funny. I have no idea how they worked around that one. Bet their brains had to be tied into knots.

So, Jefferson contended with radical Muslims and so are we, several centuries later. And in between the Klan was a blip on the historical radar that quickly fizzled out.

There's no comparison.

so we should just let you lie about it because you don't want to go there?.....stop being such a stupid fuck.....

What are you even talking about?

Christianity has as much blood on its hands historically as any religion - and as much imperialism and "superiority."

That's why you're better off staying in the present day.

You have a point, but doesn't the present day mean something?

I dispensed with your Klan argument now you want to shift goal posts on me lol.

Why is it apparently important to you that Islam be no worse than any other religion when the facts say otherwise?

I don't discount that at all. I just disagree w/ the basic premise that Islam lends itself MORE to radicalization. Other religions have had just as much radicalization in a more historical sense.

It's clear that there are other factors - poverty, lack of education, etc.

Like I said, you have a point. But to compare modern day Christianity with Islam, in terms of violent acts committed in their name, is not logical. Historically Christianity was indeed violent as was Islam. Today, however, Islam is the guerrilla warfare.
