For instance Nazi germany took a country who was humiliated after WW1 , who had no real army, and whose economy was one of the weakest in the world and nearly won ww2.

Is it more productive to just close your eyes to it or analyze where they went right and where they went wrong?

Virtually any ideology regardless of how perverse, is going to have its shining moments. For example, shoplifting is probably non-existent under Sharia law due to their barbaric penalties.

so no matter how evil islam is you take that as an example of punishment working as a detterent to crime. The only determing factor now seems to be how harsh the punishment the society is comfortable with.

Just ignoring it all together is useless.
