Proposed Minneapolis ballot item would require police to carry insurance

For STY...

We had discussed this previously and I was a bit skeptical due to concerns that the base rate would be too high. But this one would have the city pay the base rate, while the individual officers would pay for increases due to some incident. That should be offset by a reduction in the cost of the departments insurance rate. What do you, or others, think about this?

State law requires cities to “defend and indemnify any of its officers and employees,” so long as those employees were carrying out their official duties and “not guilty of malfeasance in office, willful neglect of duty, or bad faith.”
