Head of Taliban in Afghanistan believed to have died following US air-strike
They targeted Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour in remote area
Pentagon assessing results of airstrike to determine whether he was killed

The head of the Taliban in Afghanistan is believed to have died following a US airstrike. The US military carried out an air strike targeting Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour in a remote area of the Afghanistan-Pakistan border region earlier today, the Pentagon said. The Pentagon is still assessing the results of the airstrike to determine whether he was killed. But Mansour and another combatant are thought to be dead following the military drone strike authorized by President Barack Obama, a US official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The strike took place at about 6am local time. Multiple U.S. drones targeted the men as they rode in a vehicle in a remote area in Pakistan along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, southwest of the town of Ahmad Wal, the official said. Mansur became the leader of the Taliban in July last year following the death of its previous leader, Mullah Omar.

Peter Cook, the Pentagon's Press Secretary said: 'Today, the Department of Defense conducted an airstrike that targeted Taliban leader Mullah Mansur in a remote area of the Afghanistan-Pakistan border region. 'Mansur has been the leader of the Taliban and actively involved with planning attacks against facilities in Kabul and across Afghanistan, presenting a threat to Afghan civilians and security forces, our personnel, and Coalition partners. 'We are still assessing the results of the strike and will provide more information as it becomes available.

'Mansur has been an obstacle to peace and reconciliation between the Government of Afghanistan and the Taliban, prohibiting Taliban leaders from participating in peace talks with the Afghan government that could lead to an end to the conflict. 'Since the death of Mullah Omar and Mansur's assumption of leadership, the Taliban have conducted many attacks that have resulted in the death of tens of thousands of Afghan civilians and Afghan security forces as well as numerous U.S. and Coalition personnel.'

Our Tory tosser does enjoy his gore, doesn't he. Typical neoZionist drone with a hard-on for slaughter. Sickening little shite.

You have no idea who he was, what he did, the repercussions of his death or even if the report is a blind. You're an ignorant megaphone for chaos , you disgusting neoZionist propaganda pump.

A friend off mine from the old DCJ board once described it as "the most dangerous place on earth". I can't disagree..

he didn't last long, but they have an endless supply of replacements

Shut the fuck up you disgusting apologist, you do drone on and on!! He used drug money from the poppy fields of the south to set up businesses in the Gulf, is that something you applaud?

You hoover up any propaganda effluent that's delivered to yoiur plate, you scum-sucking neoZionist tub-thumper.

The submission of Afghanistan is simply a piece in the plan to attack Iran, you moronic Tory simpleton. You have the perceptions of a monkey-beating imperilaist stooge.
