Elderly Florida man couldn’t afford pain medications for his wife — so he shot and killed her

William J. Hager’s wife Carolyn had been complaining about pain and was in poor health. The 86-year-old Port St. Lucie man couldn’t afford to pay for her medications and the family’s expenses. So, Monday morning, while she slept, he allegedly shot her.

He then went to his kitchen, had a cup of coffee, then called his daughters to break the news, and later phoned 911, according to an affidavit WPTV acquired.

“I want to apologize I didn’t call earlier, I wanted to tell my kids what happened first,” detectives quoted him saying.

He’s now facing murder charges in the St. Lucie County Jail.

the Obama admin also has a hand in this due to increased pressure on pain management doctors.
they've made it damn near impossible to get legit pain meds. The whole "war on addiction" is really a war on pain management.

Meanwhile fentanyl laced heroin is making inroads.

the cost of my wifes pain management has doubled due to both the feds and big pharma/health insurance being chased out of the market and restricting access to necessary medication

In an effort to curb opioid drug abuse and addiction, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has issued new rules that limit the accessibility of hydrocodone, putting chronic pain sufferers who rely on the drug in an impossible situation.

The DEA’s new restrictions come after the decision to relabel hydrocodone as a Schedule II drug, making it difficult for users with chronic pain to receive the medicine they need. The recent changes include the elimination of phone-in refills and a mandatory check-in with a doctor every 90 days for a refill.

Hydrocodone is one of the most widely used drugs to fight chronic pain in the United States, serving a consumer base of about 100 million people. Many who rely on hydrocodone suffer from debilitating chronic pain, which greatly disrupts and decreases their quality of life.

So simple human compassion would entail spending millions upon millions of dollars and thousands of hours to create something and give it away for free? That would definitely be compassionate but are you ready to dedicate your life to do that Zap or are you just expecting others to do it?

Uh huh. Prices for medication were so reasonable and opoids weren't regulated until Obama...:rofl2:

Pharmaceutical companies didn't pull the trigger.

If you have the compassion you claim to have, why didn't you purchase the medications on her behalf? Typical Liberal that says he cares then blames someone else when he won't do what he said should have been done.
