Something fishy re: Trump tax returns?

I can imagine if any of the other candidates refused to release their tax returns, but we all know the rules for everyone else don't apply to Trump. And his acolytes will still make excuses for him.

"Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said Wednesday that he may not release his tax returns until after November’s election, citing legal advice amid an ongoing audit of his finances.

The real estate mogul, according to the Associated Press, said Wednesday that he would not overrule advice from his legal counsel not to publicly disclose his tax returns before an audit by the Internal Revenue Service is completed – including if the audit is not completed before Election Day.

Former GOP nominee Mitt Romney, who has been one of his party’s most vocal critics of Trump, called Trump's decision not to release returns “disqualifying” in a statement release on social media.
“It is disqualifying for a modern-day presidential nominee to refuse to release tax returns to the voters, especially one who has not been subject to public scrutiny in either military or public service,” Romney wrote. “Mr. Trump says he is being audited. So? There is nothing that prevents releasing tax returns that are being audited.”

Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton also hit Trump for not releasing previous tax returns, pointing to her own public disclosures.

"See, when you're running for president. ... that is kind of expected," she said of a public release during a campaign event in Blackwood, N.J. She said that she has released 33 years’ worth of returns spanning the course of her and her husband’s political careers. "So you have to ask yourself, why doesn't he want to release them?” she said.

Probably so. Would it matter?

Hard to say. His pitch to voters is I've been massively successful and I am so wealthy that I can self fund and I can't be bought. For the sake of discussion let's say he's worth $3 billion instead of his proclaimed $10. That's still wealthy beyond belief.

It really is a question I can't answer because I'm not a Trump supporter. I'm not sure if a supporter who would find that out would think Trump's lying or wonder why he wasn't honest about his wealth from the start.

I don't think it would budge the needle, much anyway.

Pretty sad. Over 100 "mostly false" to "pants on fire" and his supporters still think he hung the moon.

What are we going to do? At the end of the day we have the two most unpopular Presidential nominees (at least since they started keeping the stat). Neither one is considered trustworthy. Both have changed positions on multiple issues.

Baring something unforeseen one of them is going to win. There are Clinton and Trump supporters who won't change their opinion of the candidate they support short of something close to mass murder. There are a lot of people in between who don't particularly care for either candidate.
