The UK would be "better off without" the European Union, US presidential hopeful Donald Trump has said. He told Fox News the migration crisis had been a "horrible thing for Europe" and blamed the EU for driving it. The Republican said he was not making a "recommendation" but his "feeling" was that the UK should vote to sever ties with the EU in its 23 June referendum.

Democratic President Barack Obama expressed support for the UK remaining in the EU last month. Mr Trump, who has emerged as the Republican presumptive nominee for the US presidency, told Fox News: "I think the migration has been a horrible thing for Europe, a lot of that was pushed by the EU. "I would say [the UK] are better off without [the EU], personally, but I'm not making that as a recommendation, just my feeling. "I know Great Britain very well, I know the country very well, I have a lot of investments there." he told Fox News.

Trump's remarks come just weeks after President Obama intervened in the June 23 referendum, saying Britain would go to the "back of the queue" in any future trade negotiations with the United States following departure from the EU. Since Obama's intervention, polls have moved in favour of Brexit, suggesting that Obama's remarks have either had no effect or have backfired. Trump noted the migration crisis. "I think the migration has been a horrible thing for Europe, a lot of that was pushed by the EU," he said. Trump has been consistently underestimated throughout his campaign, but he still faces an uphill task to defeat the most likely Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton.

Migration was pushed off by the war in Syria. It amazes me that people like Tom seriously believe that economic migrants were just sitting around waiting for years and only when the war in Syria emerged did they get the idea to move to Europe purely to get welfare benefits. The credulity of some people is amazing.

We don't need some PC Septic living in a hovel by a swamp to tell us about economic migrants.

I'm guessing Douchebag Donald merely took a pro-Brexit stance because Obama opposes it. Either way, it will likely improve his relationship with 10 Downing Street should he get elected and the Brexit movement is successful.

You seriously believe that the war in Syria has nothing to do with Syrians wanting to not be in their country right now? They just want welfare, and waited until the war in Syria to get the idea to move away and get the welfare? Don't really care for their lives at all, or not wanting to live under ISIS?

no matter what obama killed the relationship with britain. He made it clear with the whole "back of the line" comment that we prioritize our alliance with the EU and Germany over Britain.

Well for a start, only a minority of those migrants are in fact Syrians, the vast majority are African and Afghans. Also they wouldn't have been able to get to Europe anyway until both Syria and Libya became failed societies. I will also refer you to the Dublin Regulation, where illegal migrants are supposed to be fingerprinted and documented in the first country they enter in the EU. Greece especially was not doing that snd just waving all and sundry through, encouraging many to just throw their documents away and then claim to be Syrians. If you care so bloody much then you should be insisting that US take a couple of million seeing as Bush and Obama caused the effing mess in the first place.
