California raises smoking age from 18 to 21

I laugh when self-proclaimed advocates of states rights get up in arms because the elected representatives of a state enacted a regulation that the elected governor of that state signed into law.
It's especially hilarious when they don't even live in that state.
that's an inane understanding of federalism..

because laws to prevent smoking, drinking. gambling, prostitution do not prevent them..Except gambling on lottery tix -which is righteous because the state makes money off of it.

So any law that is broken is therefore a law that is useless?

I think good friends, good parents, good mentors, and good judgment will curb it, not an arbitrary age.

But you said...

I think the best way to keep teenagers and other people my age from smoking is to help continuing educating them on the bad things that it can do to your body, how addition works and how it compares to other things in your life that can give you a good perspective, peer pressure from your friends not to smoke, and parents, teachers, and coaches that you may look up to that set a good example.

yes, how is my first comment all that different from my last comment?

You seriously believe that teaching kids basic arithmetic "and how it compares to other things in your life that can give you a good perspective, peer pressure from your friends not to smoke, and parents, teachers, and coaches that you may look up to that set a good example?"

Yes I seriously believe that doing those things will curb smoking more than changing the legal age to smoke will. One changes behavior for the long term and the other delays someone legally smoking a couple of years.
