Hero dies fighting ISIL

Lumberjack

Come get some
Defense Secretary Ash Carter told CNN's Christiane Amanpour in Germany that Keating's death was "tragic" and called his actions "heroic."
He added that Keating's death "shows us this is a risky campaign. .... We will defeat ISIL but there is risk associated with it."
Keating's relatives also used the word hero to describe the fallen soldier.

"He is our family hero in every sense of the word," cousin Elizabeth Ann Keating told CNN.

We need to crush these terrorists ASAP. I wonder if Trump will do a better job than tortois Obama.

You need to make up your mind, you say you don't like Trump and yet, you are making a nonsensical claim that Trump will do a better job with ISIL than Obama.

First, it's horrible to hear about this. Definitely tragic, and I am forever indebted to those who put themselves in harm's way to protect me & America. I don't want that sentiment to be lost in a political debate.

But, having read much about our efforts against ISIS over the past few weeks, it's really a myth that Obama has been ineffective against them. We've killed thousands of terrorists, decimated their command structure and reduced their territory significantly.

Trump talks about eliminating them "quickly," but that is met with skepticism at best from every military/Pentagon official who I have heard or read interviewed on the topic. This is basically a guerilla war. Trump tends to talk about defeating them in a naive way, like we can take care of it if we just step up the bombing or something.

I don't think Trump has a secret plan, and I'm extremely suspicious of his understanding of foreign policy in general. He's a real estate guy. He really doesn't get it.

That said, I'm not opposed to different ideas and the idea that Obama could be doing more. I just think Trump's whole line that we're not "winning" and haven't done anything is based on air. A Pentagon official said just last week that is "sucks" to be ISIS right now.

Can you link to these people who say Trump doesn't know what he is talking about? I have not heard that.

My problem with Obama was his slow response. To say that "we" are kicking butt over there is naive. The UK just dropped their biggest bomb last week or so. It is more than just us over there. I'm not sure what the best plan is for there, but Obama's too slow to react doesn't seem to be the best option. I would like to see other options as well, and it would be nice if Trump could be a little more specific without giving away details. I remember when McCain was calling for additional troops while campaigning and it was implemented, finally.

You describe it as slow, I describe it as measured and as a citizen who is tired of our young soldiers being maimed and killed, I am thankful.

Trump scares me on this issue, he has a callous disregard for others, he won't hesitate to send boots on the ground, and not only is there the problem of lives, there is also the problem of cost and if we can't afford to give our citizens healthcare, schooling, a modern infrastructure, then we damn sure don't have any business sacrificing our resources for those who won't carry their own weight and live in the area.\

This is where Trump sends two messages, he wants others to carry their weight, but he wants to invest our resources in a war that isn't on our soil. I just don't get that, it is disjointed thinking to me, unstable.

We disagree on Obama's slowness. This should not have been a measured response.

If Trump is elected, I don't think he really is going to go hog wild with the military as you fear. He will controlled by those in power, they will let him paint the White House gold and that's about it. Trump may have been more decisive here and we could have ended this earlier. Then again, so could Obama, but Trump isn't a tortois.

It is a major part of his platform or the speeches he gives, so is this one of the times that he is acting for the base? He hasn't changed his stance on ISIS so far.

Why did we have to do it, isn't that part of The Donald's message? Why is ISIS the sole problem of the United States? We need to be using our resources to limit their activity in the USA.

Who said it was the sole problem? You misread just about anything I post. It is like you have a preconceived notion of what I mean.

I'm not sure what Trump would do, but based on his comments, I would think he would be decisive in crushing them.

You should talk to your boy Obama about young soldiers being killed and maimed. In less time, deaths in Afghanistan are 3x higher under Obama than Bush.
