Racist statements lead lawmakers to reject John Wayne Day

No I can't, but I can see how you can though. Yes, it can be considered inappropriate for 2106, God how I hate that word, but he said that 45 years ago. Indeed I interpret that as calling for affirmative action and raising black people up from the ghettoes, but you only see what you want to see. If he was so racist then why did he hire and work alongside Sidney Poitier, Scatman Crothers, Roscoe Lee Brown and James Watkins?

His racist comment about his belief in white supremacy didn't comment on "some" blacks or even "most" blacks.
In saying The blacks he grouped every black person as "uneducated to a point of responsibility"
As if the “I believe in white supremacy..." wasn't enough.
You won't even see the overt racism the man freely expressed because you liked his cowboy movies .
Are you accustomed to talking about an entire race of people with such negative broad generalities that you think it's okay, Borbo?
Poor Borbo

I do not indulge in presentism the way that you do, it's your schtick. Again, why did he hire or work with so many black actors at a time when it was frowned on by many? I can see why you won't answer that as it makes your case decidedly shaky. I judge the man by his actions and deeds and so should you. I watched the Green Beret the other day and although it was a truly awful cliche ridden film in many ways, I did notice that it was one of the few Vietnam films that portrayed the South Vietnamese as anything other than lazy, corrupt and cowardly. Maybe you will tell me that doesn't count because the Vietnamese are Caucasian as well!!

I thought that 'The Shootist' was excellent, Oscar-winning material.

If you're going to be an ornery old timer then taking a few assholes out with you ain't a bad way to go. Helps respect for the aged.

Yes I agree and I don't say that very often, to you at least.

Charles Darwin was not one of them.

I think the jury is still out on that one. Indeed the term eugenics was not coined till 1883, ironically by Darwin's cousin Francis Galton.

The word "eugenics" was coined in 1883 by the English scientist Francis Galton, a cousin of Charles Darwin, to promote the ideal of perfecting the human race by, as he put it, getting rid of its "undesirables" while multiplying its "desirables" -- that is, by encouraging the procreation of the social Darwinian fit and discouraging that of the unfit. In Galton's day, the science of genetics was not yet understood. Nevertheless, Darwin's theory of evolution taught that species did change as a result of natural selection, and it was well known that by artificial selection a farmer could obtain permanent breeds of plants and animals strong in particular characteristics. Galton wondered, "Could not the race of men be similarly improved?"

I disagree with him virtually all the time, nothing new there! You two ought to get together as he apparently likes playing the banjo as well.

And he calls you a troll. However, when you agreed with him on Post #64, apparently the third time you've done so, his response on Post #66 indicated that he didn't think you were the "gnarled old troll you make out to be".

Notice the agree, you're not a troll, disagree you are one mindset?

Yes I am sure that's true, but getting back to banjos maybe you two could have a duel?

There was only one banjo in the video two. Seems the one playing it has a better understanding of that than you.
That's true but the tune is called Duelling Banjos, but I'm sure you knew that already.

It's called Dueling Banjos. It only has ONE "l".

It didn't involve but ONE banjo but I'm sure you knew that.
