John Stossel in hospital with cancer. Slams our horrible medical system

You need to talk to some Canadians. My son in law hates the USA healthcare system. My friend's mother had breast cancer the same time I did, I just paid off the last of my credit card for my treatment! We compared our care, hers was first rate and timely, just like mine, but I went into debt and she didn't.

I could talk to Margery if she hadn't died from her brain tumor that she had to wait 6 months for. But yes, she saved some money.

Profit in Healthcare gets you timely care. When you pay the same regardless how many patients you serve, you see fewer patients. This happens the world over.
Same thing happens in every endevor.

Very true. Unfortunately the economically illiterate misunderstand Stossel's point. No surprise there.

lol, only when they want to, otherwise, my last appointment, I forked over $168.00, that didn't include the test, that was just for the privilege of the doctor's time.

Then don't go. Dig up some roots and see how far you get.

Of course you will hand over $700 for an iPhone so you can play candy crush but $168 for your health is outrageous.

Maybe next time you should drive out to the bush and get some Eskimo healing. Just a thought.

Eskimo is a term no longer used, they are called Native Alaskans, or by their tribal names.

I don't play candy crush or any video games, but I'm sure you do!

Have I said ANYWHERE that Doctors should be paid nothing for their work?

this is how the right thinks

everything is a jumble in their brains

they have lived in a steady diet of fucking lies son long they cant understand anything like a normal brained person

Why do you think profit in healthcare is bad? Your own words please
Because people will pay the last dime they own for treatment that will preserve their live and business will squeeze that maximum amount of profit from their pain and suffering because maximizing profits is what businesses do. There are ethics and morals above "supply vs. demand" economics with health care. Its more than just a business. It is life and death and wellness. That is why. It's not that maximizing profits is a bad thing in general but doing so at the cost of others disadvantage in pain and suffering is both immoral and unethical. That is why all modern industrialized nations, except the U.S., require their health care systems to operate as non-profits. That way the focus is on improving health outcomes, not maximizing profits, when those profits come at the cost of health outcomes.

It is also, in the long run, a more cost affective management model while improving over all health outcomes. In the U.S. we can't continue to waste nearly 20% of GDP on health care costs. It's far to great a slice of our economy and it is substantial hurdle to economic growth and productivity. Who do you think is driving health care reform in our nation? Government? Left wing liberals? Hell no it's corporations who are spending nearly 20% of their operational costs on health care for their employees.

wanting profit kept in a life and death issue that has proven over and over again to cost lives is evil.

life and death are not markets to corner
