Sanders says he has lost primaries to Clinton because ‘poor people don’t vote’

WILMINGTON, Del. — White House hopeful Bernie Sanders said Saturday that many of his losses to Hillary Clinton in Democratic primaries were because “poor people don’t vote.”

The senator from Vermont, who has made fighting income inequality the rallying cry of his campaign, was asked during a taping of NBC’s “Meet the Press” why Clinton had prevailed in 16 of 17 states so far with the highest levels of income inequalilty.

“Well, because poor people don't vote,” Sanders told host Chuck Todd. “I mean, that's just a fact. That's a sad reality of American society.”

Poor Bernie, can't get those lazy poor people off the couch to come vote for him....

Well, Bernie insulted a lot of poor people when he said they don't know what being poor is like.
I ,missed that one.
But these were states with highest income inequality ( doe sthat mean more poor?) -generally he is correct in that areas of poverty have depressed voting patterns

When you’re white, you don’t know what it’s like to be living in a ghetto,” Sanders concluded. “You don’t know what it’s like to be poor. You don’t know what it’s like to be hassled when you walk down the street or you get dragged out of a car. And I believe that as a nation in the year 2016, we must be firm in making it clear, we will end institutional racism and reform a broken criminal justice system.”
I et the hassled part. But he's wrong about whites not knowing poverty

That is your white privledge taking. Even the porest white peson has it beter than the rihest negro.
that is an idiotic meme ( negro?). Poverty is poverty and poverty sucks.

The 2010 U.S. Census listed Owsley County as having the lowest median household income in the country outside of Puerto Rico, with 41.5 percent of residents living below the poverty line. Familial and community bonds run deep, with a people who share a collective historical and cultural legacy uncommon in most parts of the country.
However, the community of 5,000 struggles with unemployment because of the decline in coal, tobacco and timber industries. Health issues include drug addiction without effective treatment.

See you don't really understand your white privilege. That is why you say this. Only a true racist would say that poor whites are equal to poor blacks. Every thinking person knows that being white has its own inherent advantages.

For example the poorest white person will be accepted with open arms to play at Augusta National. A negro will be asked to wash the dishes. When you come to grips with this and your own white privledge only then can you truly be part of solving the problem

Lee Elder and Calvin Peete played in Masters Tournaments. Both men were African-American. Augusta has at least two African American members.

Regardless you are talking about a private club as an example of systematic white privilege (sic) somehow can't understand/be poverty.
Poverty cuts across all social strata. It's the great unwanted equalizer.

Now you can mention there are fewer opportunities to be lifted out of poverty by blacks in the ghetto -
but I would argue poor in Appalachia are largely stuck also.
