Court rules Wisconsin right-to-work law is unconstitutional

Wisconsin's right-to-work law, championed by Republican Gov. Scott Walker as he was mounting his run for president, was struck down Friday as violating the state constitution.

Attorney General Brad Schimel promised to appeal the decision and said he was confident it would not stand, noting that no similar law has been struck down in any other state. Schimel, also a Republican, has not decided whether to seek an immediate suspension of the ruling while the appeal is pending, spokesman Johnny Koremenos said.

"We are confident Wisconsin's freedom-to-work law is constitutional and will ultimately be upheld," Walker wrote on Twitter.

Right-to-work laws prohibit businesses and unions from reaching agreements that require all workers, not just union members, to pay union dues. Twenty-five other states have such laws.

hmm interesting if this stands then the wisconsin judge pretty much declared 25 other states laws as unconstitutional.
 
Courts rulings...be careful what you wish for.

Ford has voted. They have over-ruled unions by building new manufacturing plants in Mexico which will produce the cars there, and sell them back to Wisconsites here. Ask Detroit how that "Union Thing" is working for them!

This is a good question. Should I be 'forced' to join a union just to get a job?

I can see it as, you're not really forced because you don't have to take the job. And the union has already created a certain job environment and benefits for you. But, unions do things with your money that you may not approve of. Isn't that taking your money just like the judge in this case is concerned about? What if everyone had to join a private union to get a job, do you think that is good for the USA?
 
The decision was under the “takings” clause of the Wisconsin Constitution. As in an eminent domain case, the court found that the union’s interest in compulsory dues payments was property, that the property was taken by the right to work law for a public purpose, but without just compensation.

The notion that a union has a property right in forcing employees to pay union dues against their will is odd, at best. Don't see it holding up.

No. Do you think that corporations having the exclusive right to negotiate what the market will bear for their goods and services, and no one else, is good for the USA?

Congress does things with my money that I don't approve of, should you be exempt from taxes cause your representative is a Democrat and you're a Republican? The same thing applies here. If I don't like how my congressional or union representative represents me I can vote him/her out of office.

As for your last comment unions are a defacto arm of the democrat party.

Lastly if unions were so wonderful people wouldn't need to be coerced to join.
